Watch the vid.
I've had this vid for a while, only decided to post it up recently.

The car didn't blow up or anything, and it just drove away like if nothing happened. So what caused the flare up?

Burnouts cause lots of frictions and friction = heat. With enough heat it can blow up a tire like that.

thats just it, the tire was fine, no blow out or anything albeit a lot less tread on it. The car drove away without any problems...

Did you film that?

maybe you have a bad exhaust leak and it ignited from the heat:dunno:

You hit 88 MPH with the Flux Capacitor engaged? Not like a Volvo will look out of place in 1985 :dunno: ... Secondly, shouldn't a Volvo be RWD?

Could've ignited something on the ground?

ask your mom if she ever had that happen while driving her car...:dunno:

there's def sumtin on the ground.. Spilled fuel? as it lights across the ground.. Did you put anything down to help with the burnout?

Nope nuthing. The turbo FWD Volvo will do burnouts very easily. No water was added, or anything, it's just really good at doing burnouts. No spilled fuel ( ) as it did the same thing before on another day as well (although not anywhere near as big) we just saw a light from inside the car. We didn't know what to make of it and just chalked it up to alien Jeebus.

I've thought about it for a while as we filmed this a few years ago. It seems that the smoke itself just ignited when the tire got to a certain temperature. Could it be some sort of compound in the tire that causes fire? (I smell lawsuit) At the very end of the video there is fire on the ground underneath the car. WTF is that? since the tire didn't blowout or anything.

As a side note, the Volvo had shifted to 2nd or 3rd and was spinning the front tires at 140kph and on redline. I shut the car off when I saw the explosion, it wasn't a sensor or anything like that that shut the car down. And I can confirm that these results are reproducible.

I think its your tires. If you have ever seen a tire burn they burn pretty well. IM guessing that from your big burn out let off alot of flamable gases from the tires. Your tires then got hot enough,(or maybe heat off your exhaust or something ) to ignite the gasses.

hahaha that was freakin cool man, I'd say it was either something flammable like fuel on the ground or your tires.

Jayson
11-28-2007, 09:44 PM
probably bits of your tired that ignited... if your wheels were spinning that fast and you weren't moving, the rubber probably melted off onto the pavement, and eventually ignited... that's my guess :dunno:

Something to do with the brakes?

Supa Dexta
12-08-2007, 08:41 PM
I've heard of brake pads releasing some sort of gas, but I've never herd of it being flammable..

To me it looks like it lights across the ground (well I think it did, can't view it again right now)

How does the volve wastegate work(is it internal or dump?)..I'm betting your bouncing off the rev limiter causinfg spark cut which thus is causing extra fuel which is egnighted once the wastegate opens and dumps it on the ground...just my swing at a guess
