Forget the City Golf

How about the South Africa revamp of the old classic MK1 GTI!

1.8L R model w/ 121 HP in this:

Redone, modernized with a modern interior
Hopefully in gavanized steel... Converted into CAD for the R = 15K

I would have one in my Garage if it came here

I'm sure it's quick already (heck the MK1 GTI pulled decent number)

If it came w/ a 2.0 FSI w/ DSG..... it would humiliate alot of cars out there

IMO that is hotness in its pure form
That MK1 GTI sparked a whole generation of fast hatches and fun driving "economy cars"

I'd pay money and homage to the originator

Do you guys think with enough North American support that we can petition for VW to bring it back?

I'm thinking that safety standards are probably higher here than there though

Thats not a revamp, they never stopped making them like that in South Africa.

I brought back a couple of brochures from the dealers there, they only came in a 1.3 or 1.6 at that time.

They used a Jetta front end, looked great.

The radio used to play these crazy accidents ' 12 people killed when a bakkie (mini pickup) and a golf collided, one person in the bakkie, 11 in the golf'

I think the "R" is a re-introduction of the GTI

Not a fan, but is refreshing to see something like that brand new.

In a heartbeat.

My brother in law has a bright yellow 1975 "swallowtail" rabbit and my sister drives around an early Jetta coupe.

Both are in MINT condition.

I wouldn't buy one simply because it doesn't fit my current lifestyle however I could see it selling quite well. If I was 23 again, I would be interested.

its hot and all but IMO nothing beats the rugged bumper tops, mouldings, and flares..this whole smooth and painted/updated bumper thing is not my taste when it comes to mk1's and mk2's

original oldschool
