sti has always been faster for the past couple years. the jdm sti and usdm sti are so different that these numbers don't mean much.

EVO / STI

2006 1:05:07 / 1:04:72

2005 1:04.88 / 1:04:17

2003 1:05:30 / 1:04:69

i belive that the jdm STi's are faster b/c they usually race with STi spec C's. that means they are 320hp compared to whatever the evos put out. 280?

sweet!! I'm more of a subaru fan more than an evo fan. Im not that fond with mitsubishi cars. haha

I personally think the new STI looks decent, and it's perfect for a family hauler (with 320 HP :D )

^ Cool vid. The G35C/Skyline got owned by all the cars (from 1st to last place). It was 3 seconds back while the other cars were all within 1 second.

Looks like the STI held it's own and the Evo IX > Evo X. I definitely didn't expect that.

I'd love a new STI, I find hatchbacks so useful and I don't mind the look. :dunno:

The last EVO outperformed the STI and it sucked for Subie fanboys. Who cares? The EVO is 100% new model while the drivetrain of the STI is carried over. Current EVO performance is a baseline only as the 4G63 was improved on alot from the old DSM days to the EVO IX. Why do think I'm not lining up for one of the 1st year EVO's? Besides 90% of these cars get modded and nobody knows yet how the 4B11T will respond to mods.

All I know is one car looks very nice (EVO) and one car looks very vanilla (STI) and that sucks for Subie fanboys.:poosie:

Exactly, no one knows. Whereas people do know how well the EJ25/EJ20 responds to mods and knows there is plenty of potential for power in that engine.

I'm not saying the Mitsu engine won't respond but you can't really compare modded cars.

Yeah but the 4G63 responds to mods much better than the EJ engines so the EVO has always had that advantage. Will it continue with the new engine? Nobody knows but considering the head is a vast improvement over the 4G63 and the turbo is larger I'm willing to bet it will continue.

All I know is one car looks very nice (EVO) and one car looks very vanilla (STI) and that sucks for Subie fanboys.:poosie: The STI's drivetrain is a carryover, and in this case I think that is an advantage the STI holds over the Evo. You say that no one knows how the Evo responds to mods or what it's potential is? I do. It'll suck for the first few years, then get better. Bottom line, it's an all new engine in it's first MY and not to mention it's a Mitsubishi. This already spells TSBs and fixes eeevverywhere. This won't happen with the STI, since as you mentioned, it's a drivetrain that Subaru has been working on since the 90s to make reliable. Case in point about the TSBs, look at the SST in the Evo. They're already having issues making it run properly bone stock! And that brings up mods...the SST is already such a finnicky thing to tune, just imagine what trying to feed more power through it will do to the tuning of it. Basically at this stage and for the next couple years, you can forget about modding the Evo X GSR.

You mentioned the 4G63 too. Sure it's a great engine with far more potential than the EJ25...but who cares, it's not around anymore.

The nice thing about the STI is that they kept and tweaked what was good (the drivetrain) and swapped out what was bad (the chassis.)

As for the ugliness...well Subarus have always been ugly. GC? Ugly. Bugeye? Ugly. Peanut eye? Ugly. Pig nose? Ugly. New STI? Ugly. But you know, this always happens, people bitch a lot when the car comes out, but eventually the look grows on people and the world keeps turning. Personally, I found the STI unbearably ugly for a few months, then one day I started appreciating its lines and the utility of a hatchback in a sports car.

I'm starting to sound like an STI fanatic here, but really, the Evo is hot, the STI not...and when they arrive, I'll be test driving both.

Agreed with what you said here. Keep in mind thought that soon STI will have to develope new technology as that 1990 stuff will not cut it any more. Then they too will have to iron out mass production problems. It's a vicious circle.

Time will tell.

Isn't the new block aluminium too? That will hurt its mod potential.

The aluminum block may mean that 1000 hp EVO's will be a thing of the past but so what. Aluminum block reduces weight and adds responsiveness. SR20 has aluminum block and it's still pretty stout. Cast iron blocks are dinosaurs now wich is why Mitsubishi dropped the 4G63.

That doesnt suprise me at all. Im not a fan of the EVO X's at all. They look like sin and I heard that they are around 200 pounds heavier then the IX's. Sti Hatch FTW!
