My aunt is selling her 98 Maxima GXE 5 speed, it needs about ~1000 worth of work to it. She is willing to sell me it for what I believe is a good deal. Can anyone check their black book to see what it is worth? It's got ~190 k on it

TIA

You can access the retailer's version of the black book for free through the Toyota Canada website.

Pick a car and get into their "Build/Price It" thing. At the bottom, in the third step, there should be a button that says "Appraise your Trade In". It links to the Black Book site.

So add a couple grand to that and you should be at a private seller value.

Lots of sites have them. GM has one too.

Some manufacturers like Honda have them on the last page after you're done configuring your car.

I have a black book subscription (they are published every 2 weeks) but they only go back 6 years.

I have all 3 black books. (Used van and truck guide, the normall black book (which goes back 6 years) and then a old car market guide, also reffered to as grey book. (which goes back to 1995.)

How much is she willing to sell it to you for?
Wow, wrong...
Low is $2150
High $5550 (for a mint car loaded)

I would be happy to scan this if you don't believe me.

Hmm.... I saw $742-2450ish and thats if the car has a sun roof. Keep in mind these actions values are based in Toronto. Alberta has a slightly higher resale value. Personally i wouldnt pay more than $3000 for it. Just my .02

Thanks for the replies guys! She is offering it to me for ~ 2500, it needs front wheel bearings and some a little bit of body work

Don't take it for more than $2000 as the blackbook is only $492 for low! and with that mileage and work needed... its not worth it for $2500.

haha are you guys on crack? It's a 1998 maxima, not a 1992 civic.

$2500 is a great price for that car. With a little work it'll be a reliable and comfortable ride.

:werd:

Black book doesn't reflect the true market value of a car. Some books easily sell way above black book values, some sell for just barely more. Check the trader and you'll see that this is a steal of a deal.

2500 is a great deal for a 98 maxima, i'd buy it
if this car was in the paper, it would be sold quick

Yup that's a good deal I'd say. Run a carproof on it just to be on the safe side.

Thanks guys, I picked it up. Runs and pulls smooth, just noisy as shit due to the wheel bearings. the interior is in mint condition, never been smoked in. First Nissan for me and I'm liking it so far!

It's had quite a bit of work put into her recently, tune up, new tires, new clutch, new suspension, new battery bla bla bla
