hey, im looking for a set of 3.5's for my fronts and 4x10's in the back for my Monte. i want as little bass coming out of them as possible thats what my sub is for, and want a nice and clear sound. im not looking for anything crazy high end. anyone know what speakers could be good for what im looking for. what are my options? oh, im gonna hook them up to a dvd deck not an amp. with that said what do yall know?

You'll still want them to have some "bass".

What I mean by this is your sub will play from 20 - ~200hz and then you'll need your mid range speakers (and tweeters) to cover the rest of your hearing range (up to 20,000hz).

Cruchfield is a good place to start your research IMO. Good luck.

i need opinions on decent speakers. i never really upgrade my speakers because of the fact that the factory speakers in newer cars are really good these days, so im a little out of the loop when it comes to mids.

Using the factory speaker sizes won't give you a sound that you're happy with. 3.5" speakers are too small even produce lower frequency vocals properly and your sub won't go high enough, sharp enough to fill in that gap either. The rear 4x10s aren't great either, unless you want your music to bark at you from behind, not to mention that oval speakers tend to suck for sq. If I were you, I'd start looking into custom mounted 6.5" components up front and delete the rear speakers.

^^^really? delete the rears? what about people in the back? how will it sound for them, just bass? or is te point to have a good enough speaker up front that it can be heard perfect from behind? i dont really wanna start cutting up my door panels and shit just to get bigger speakers in there.

I agree with Jeff. You'll get nothing but mids and highs and completely screw over your midbass. Nobody really makes a replacement 3.5" either.

If you're not going to bother with an amp, get something cheap with a brand name as all you're doing is upgrading from factory. Your DVD deck will be spitting a massive 15W each (if you're lucky) and will be under driving anything fancy you buy.

Check out the low-end to midrange Pioneer, JL, Clarion, or (if you're feeling a little more exravagent) Hertz (low end).

ya im just looking to upgrade mostly. like i said, i dont wanna cut shit up to have high end speakers in there. im thinking like 3-400 bucks for fronts and rears wit a decent brand name. what are the opinions depending on the price range.

Delete the rears because they just mess up the soundstage. Most of the time, people don't consider passengers when modding car audio.

If all you want to do is replace the factory speakers with aftermarket in the same size, then here's what you need. Just be aware of the shortcomings I mentioned. If you won't be amping these, use a deck with more than average power (Pioneer or the Alpine ones that are rated at 27w.)
