I think there was an IS-F vs G37 video somewhere. Other than straight line, it's on par with G37. May be that's why they need a R version.

I really hope that the price difference isn't much. They're only adding 12 hp and 5 ft-lbs of torque and removing 200lbs in weight.

Doesn't really seem worthwhile to me.

i wouldnt base the results on that seeing as how most magazines get a 0-60 in 4.4 sec or so...
and the fact that i think the g37 would fall more roughly in line with performance with the is350

It might be something like $5000, consider the BMW M3 and the competition package it came with, or the ZHP package on the 3 series models, its pretty much the same as this ISF/R

I have mixed feelings about this car.. rumors on pricing are up around 90K which is just way too much for the limited differences.

Enter the IS-F/R, whose Yamaha-developed 5.0-liter V-8 is reportedly good for 429 horsepower and 376 pound-feet (versus the IS-F’s current 417 horsepower and 372 pound-feet), with curb weight also cut by a dramatic 220 pounds.

If the program goes ahead, word is the asking price would be ¥11 million (say $98,420), more than a 40 percent increase on the standard IS-F. Ouch.

What do you think? Would you pay nearly $100K for a tweaked IS-F when a GT-R, or the European competition, is tens of thousands of dollars less?

http://news.windingroad.com/countriesmarkets/japan/japan-report-is-lexus-working-on-an-is-fr/

Cutting the weight by 220 lbs is impressive...but the 40% price tag premium is a bit steep. I thought the proposed IS-F was supposed to go head to head with M3, C63, RS4...so is the IS-F/R Lexus' insurance that it has something that truly challenges the competition? :dunno:

I thought the F = Fast. It needs and R now?

Pretty soon, they will come out with a model called the IS-F/R XRS and charge another $10K for it.

no f isnt for fast.. it has to do with toyota's racing heritage, I believe it's named after fuji speedway in Japan.

haha, we are both wrong:

The IS-F and LF-A are very different vehicles, yet they share the same DNA, design philosophy, and heritage. Prominent in both vehicles, the "F" designation was first conceived nearly 20 years ago with a project internally coded "Circle-F," with the "F" standing for "flagship." This was the original code for what became the Lexus Division. The Circle-F designation further evolved into the code name Flagship One, or F1, and the first F1 concept developed into Lexus' first vehicle, the LS. Since then, the "F" code has come to signify a special vehicle program within Lexus that falls outside the normal engineering and development process.

Sigh...I don't get Lexus. Why are they trying so hard to make a race car out of that thing? Good on them for packing so much power into it and for coming out with more improved models...but damn, look at what you start with...a big porky battlecruiser...

Simple. Their customers are dying off.

The average age of a Lexus owner is 61. At 70, most of those people will be senile and in old folks homes eating their food through a straw.

So, they are simply trying to attract a younger crowd. Kind of what Scion is supposed to do for them.

Alas, this bulgy behemoth isn't likely to attract the younger buyers as I believe you can get the GTR for a similar price.

If it is, it will be cheap.

The 335 full loaded is $65K. The M3 will likely be $15K more in Canada anyway. One would think the C63 would have to be at least $80K

Talked to a couple people from LoneStar and they have one for special order in March. So if anyone wants one, time to go down and make a deposit. A lot of people have been talking about getting one but no one has shown up with the $$$. Pick a # between $80-$100k were his exact words.

I would love to own one. It's one amazing car.

I'd buy an IS350, but not an IS-F. I'd rather have the c63 amg. However with that said, I'm sure Lexus will have no problem selling these things. Japanese pre-orders are already into the multi-year waiting list.

From what I recall, the shape of the F is the first corner at Fuji?
