Something that doesn't weigh 5000 lbs.

It's a GT Coupe. Not a sports car.

IMHO i think every car there would be a sports car... wouldnt a sports car be anything designed to go fast... i mean even the mcmerc has a lot of un-needed luxury... in terms of just a RAW sports car i like the exige.

Cars like the Reventon, although definately beautiful, are basically one-offs... they are making 20 of them and you cant just put one-offs on a list like that, you need somthing thats accessable to the people who want to buy them. in terms of a bentley continental VS a s2000... id take the continental... its still fast as hell and it would smoke the s2k in basically any race

On the August 1, 2007, Bentley released details of a more powerful GT. Power is increased to 603 bhp/449kW (610 PS), with a top speed of 202 mph (325 km/h) and a 0-60 mph time of 4.3 seconds. The Continental's weight is also reduced by 35 kg (77 lb). Minor exterior changes include a tinted front grille and larger exhaust pipes. The price for this model is £137,000. The Continental GT Speed is the first production Bentley capable of reaching 200 mph (322 km/h).

4.3 seconds is DAMN fast... in fact... its faster than your NSX by 0.9 seconds.
(1997 NSX)

in terms of cornering... the GT has an audi quatro awd system and tons of grip... in fact... the world record for fastest car on ice is held by the Continental GT.

just because it has a Bentley badge does not instantly mean its not worthy of being called a sports car.

Destinova403
12-18-2007, 11:39 AM
i edited my last post enough... im just going to add some details about the Maserati GranTurismo...

Engine 4244 cc 90° V8
Power 405 PS (399 hp/298 kW) at 7100 rpm
Torque 460 N·m (339 ft·lbf) at 4750 rpm
Top speed 285 km/h (177 mph)[1]
Acceleration 0-62 mph 5.2 seconds
Acceleration 0-400 m 13.4 seconds
Acceleration 0-1000 m 23.9 seconds

made by Ferrari and still damn fast... i think every car on that list deserves to be there for different reasons. each of these cars has merits and id love to own any one of them.

The Bentley has 2 doors and will keep up with anything on that list in every area except braking, and skidpad G. It's just a quite a bit more comfy. Sounds to me like it is a good fit on there.

And more people will buy it rather than 1/2 of the expensive stuff on there.

Oh and the TT doesn't belong on there. IMHO it's still Ghey

Something that can out-salom a honda insight or a firefly.

The Bentley can't do either. Brute HP doesn't make up for much of anything really. Just because it has XXX HP as it does, or have two doors, and has a top speed of what it does means little. I can turbo charge a 2 door Chevette, to produce much the same HP & top speed numbers, that doesn't make it an super car either by your definition.

didnt you read what i wrote... how can you assume that somthing cant slalom because its a larger car... it has a full AWD quatro system and a ton of grip. it has the world speed record on ice and i highly doubt it would be out-slalomed by a firefly...

200-ft skidpad, avg g, 0.82. 600-ft slalom, mph, 64.9. On sale in U.S., Currently ... Bentley Continental GT Speed: The quickest, fastest Bentley ever

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/luxury/112_0410_2005_bentley_continental_gt/

and the honda insight:

and i cant even find the spec's for the firefly.

to put it into perspective... the 911 Turbo does the slalom course at 66.5 MPH... only 2 mph less than the continental GT...

its a sweet car and you cant deny it.

Destinova403
12-18-2007, 01:11 PM
id also just like to point out that the 2008 Subaru STI only does 0.9 on the skidpad

Source http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drives/FullTests/articleId=123768

thats 0.08g more than the Continental and its probably a safe benchmark. remember that the STI is one of the best handling and most grippy cars on the market.

EDIT:

Edmunds got better numbers for the continental GT than motortrend did... they also didnt test the speed verstion, rather they just tested the regular GT

It also stopped from 60 mph in a head-bobbing 113 feet and hustled through our 600-foot slalom at 65.3 mph.

Zero to 60 mph takes a mere 4.5 seconds, and the quarter mile flashes by in just 12.9 seconds at 109.7 mph. For reference, the GT can even outgun a Porsche 911.

Pretty damn impressive in my books for the weight of the car.

The car is in the same class as the ASton Martin DB9 and Ferrari 612 Scaglietti and CL65 AMG. See the comparison here:

The article I read WAY back when was by Road & track magazine.
The continental was the worst performing car of the whole group of cars compaired... that included the Focus, the insight, the civic, about 100 cars in total. I dont remember the numbers, but it was atrocious.
Its not that it matters really
I dont care to search around and find that article, but I'm sure its out there.:dunno:

13. Aston Martin DBS - Super car (not sports car)
12. Audi R8 - Super car (not sports car)
11. Audi TT
10. Bentley Continental GT Speed
9. Chevrolet Corvette
8. Dodge Viper SRT10
7. Ferrari 430 Scuderia - Super car (not sports car)
6. Lamborghini Reventon - Super car (not sports car plus is extremely limited manufactured so basically not even worthy to put in any list)
5. Lotus Elise/Exige
4. Maserati GranTurismo - Super car (not sports car)
3. Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster - Super car (not sports car)
2. Nissan GT-R
1. Porsche 911 GT2 - Super car (not sports car)

there are different classifications and most of them are not sports cars at all. Watch "Top Gear" and you will understand the difference.

should just be called a list of "Hot cars in 2008"

The last time I drove an NSX I swore to myself I'd have one one day. There's a reason why the owners of NSX's love them as much as they do, and it's NOT because they're slow.

In same ways definitely, but I highly doubt it would compete with the NSX in an actual track race. The NSX is too balanced and too easy to control and drive, and you definitely feel weight when you hit corners no matter what car you're in.

That being said, you're arguing a moot point. Everyone in this thread would gladly cruise in a CGT if given the chance.

By your standards the GT-R is not really a sports car in every category you listed.
Light Weight? Definitely not
Front Engine? Does it matter?
RWD? AWD, even better
2 Seats? Try 4.
No Gimmicks? All the cars on the list are, they all have very respectable numbers and can prove themselves, each of them accel in different categories.
Driver Focused? All the cars on the list are, they wanted a driver for the CGT based on numbers, my grandmother won't be doing 198mph anytime soon.

I don't know why you still feel the need to argue this ?

This is what I think a sports car is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_car

And this is what I think a GT car is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_tourer

But by your standards a Boeing 747 is as sports car as they get.
Light Weight? Hell no
Front Engine? Side engine x 4 !
RWD? NO Wheel Drive. SWEET !
2 Seats? Try 100
No Gimmicks? Auto Pilot !
Driver Focused? All the cars on the list are, they wanted a driver for the CGT based on numbers, my grandmother won't be doing 400mph anytime soon.

the bentley, like a lot of other cars on that list really aren't sports cars, but it handles way better than you think it does. its faster and more agile than most cars that i have driven.

the high horsepower, awd, and rediculously complicated suspension more than compensate for the heavy curbweight.

that list seems more like a "what the author likes" list than any sports car list.

fyi...you can read about my day in the bentley in the July August issue of vex magazine if your interested.

exactally, but i think we get the idea of what they were getting at... forbes isnt exactally an automotive specialized magazine, just seems like 16 year olds are looking for anything to cry about and pull on their testicles till they turn blue.
