When I was moving out here last spring I got stoped in Ontario and got a ticket for following to close (pretty lame eh.)
As soon as I arrived in Alberta my licence was switched over, as well as my plates and insurance on my car. I never heard about the ticket again until today. I get home and there is a letter in the mail from a collection agency in Ontario Claiming I owe for the ticket. I thought once my info (licence etc,) was switched over that would be the end of it. Do I have any options here, or am I pretty much pooched. :thumbsdow

And if i do end up paying it, will that be points against my new licence here in AB?

Any help from those experienced would be great.

COSINE ERROR COSINE ERROR!

Do it man, find any loop hole you can, anything. Damn it even if your postal code is wrong YOU CAN DO IT! Cops are dumb anyways and they are only trying to keep you down. I mean a speeding ticket there, running a red light there, what the hell does it matter? FIGHT THE LAW, and don't follow the Bobby Fuller Four with "I fought the law" because this time, the law lost...

They can send you to collections but it cannot affect your credit history, they did not extend you a concious Line of Credit so therefore it cannot negatively affect it.

Well at least in BC anyways, also check up if you no longer have a license for a period of time they will waive the fine. Did it for a ticket from BC a couple years ago and since I no longer had a BC drivers license they waived the fine

I would tend to agree with the idea that they can't do anything. Collections agencies cannot harm your credit - contrary to what many believe. They can call you repeatedly, but you can actually tell them to stop and they have no right. At least, that's my understanding.

Are you ever going to move back to Ontario or visit while driving? If so, an outstanding ticket might be a problem. A big problem. Perhaps it is just better to pay it and have a clean record with them?

I don't believe this is entirely true. It may not affect your credit rating, but it does show up on your credit report from Transunion, Equifax.

I had a similar situation with an old ticket from Manitoba (when I lived there) and it came up when applying for a mortgage a few years later. The bank was very understanding as there were no other issues, but they did suggest paying so that it would be removed, and would no longer be a potential issue in the future.

I would say it is not worth the trouble and just pay to save yourself headaches in the future.

Pay it, else you'll have issues the next time you're in ON.

Definitely pay it. you're way past the point of fighting it over a postal code error or anything like that. You were convicted in your absence and the credit company won't leave you alone until you pay. You're lucky they haven't found your phone number yet.

This sounds like it is already in collections. Id say anything with "Recovery Corp" in its name is a collection agency.

It will show up on your credit bureaus. Theres a section for "Collections" on the reports.

You gotta love all the outta of province/state parking ticket or speeding ticket threads. "Dont pay them! F them!"

Good luck son.

I got on the phone with recover corp today and talked to them. I really dont mind paying the ticket, i was just avoiding it to spite the cop who gave it to me because he was such a ass hole.

Aparently, (as per recover corp) who is a collections agency, I had until the 1st of the year to pay the ticket or my wages were going to be "dipped into" and my credit would be red flaged. I asked them how they managed to find me, and she said "it's the government, they can find anything." She said that the country's driving records arent seperated into proviences and that any driving info is shared freely from border to border. IE a ticket in a different provience will show up on ones driving abstract.

Pay the ticket or it will never get removed off your driving record and will affect your insurance rates. I got a ticket in Sk driving a rental car and 4 years later they tracked me down. When I went to get insurance on the car I was buying it came up and the 3-4 year expiry period doen't start until you pay the ticket.

Lol your wages garnished? Maybe if you didn't pay your income taxes...I'm doubting that a collection agency would have the authority to dip into anything you make.

It does appear on your bureau which doesn't look too great if you have bad or mediocre credit...if you have good credit though it shouldn't be much of a problem.

truth or not I dont care really. For the sake of the hundred bucks its not worth the hassle I guess.

hahaha you guys are suckers if you pay...drivers abstracts are not federal..they are provincial only. I ticked in SK will not affect your abstract here in AB. Also to be able to report to your credit they need your full name, DOB, and possibly SIN. Now of course they wouldnt have your SIN but they may have your DOB from your license info. THey may threaten your credit but there is jack shit they can do. A friend of mine has like $6000 in unpaid tickets from Ontario, should he ever go back there and get stopped for speeding he might be in trouble but to save $6000 I sure would stay out of Ontario for a few years. Hell I'd stay out of Ontario for 10 bucks.
