View Full Version : Safe to drive with fuel problems

My car is accelerating really slow, and needs double the pressure on the gas pedal than it normally would. It isn't actually using more gas though. I think it would be pretty easy to fix at a mechanics, the fuel filter probably needs replacing by now, but the problem is, I am visiting Calgary from Lethbridge, and I don't think I'm going to be able to get it repaired in time. I'm leaving on the 3rd. Is it safe to drive it back to Leth, or am I risking damaging it?

Sounds to me like the throttle cable is binding up on something. Try moving the throttle by hand under the hood and see :dunno: WD-40 will save the day ;)

may also be the clutch slipping if it is a standard... in which case i would say go ahead and drive it but if you are unlucky i may not since if it goes completly when you are driving and are stuck on highway 2 somewhere it would really suck

If it's not using anymore gas than normal I'd say your throttle cable is messed up and may required replacement or adjustment.

If you're running lean it could cost you an engine couldn't it?

brakes sticking? bad fuel? I think I'd want to know what the problem was..

Wow, just found out what the problem was. I went and got my oil changed just to see what would happen. The dipstick showed that I had plenty of oil, and I still had about 1000k to go based on the sticker on my windshield. But anyways, I got it changed and the car is running perfectly now. Really weird. Thanks for your help though guys.

Maybe while changing the oil the guy noticed a loose vacuum hose and reconnected it. :P
