Don't by LG anything. 3 of my friends have had to return LG consumer electronics withing a few months of buying them. I think 2 were home theaters, and 1 was a TV. I think their appliances are fine, but go with the Sony.

Sharp Aquos (http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/sharp-lc-46d62u/4505-6482_7-32069030.html)

This is the TV that I have, and it's fantastic for gaming, movies, TV, just everything. I use an HD-DVD through my Xbox360, connected via HDMI, and it works great. Games are sharp, and with the 120Hz refresh rate, there is little to no frame lag. Colors are great, watching regular DVD's or HD-DVD is fantastic. Easy to use menus, input switching, it's all really easy. 3 HDMI, 3 Component inputs, damn near everything that you want will connect to this.

I picked up the Samsung LN-T4069FX and the thing is amazing. The Motion Plus (120hz) will blow your mind.

I agree with staying away from LG, buddy had a couple problems with his.

Also I was going to buy my TV on boxing day last year, but when I checked the prices in November, they were around $1100.00 for the one I wanted. As Christmas came, they climbed slowly to $1500.00, then on boxing day they were selling it for $1199.00

I bought it it march for $999.99

make sure you dont just ASSUME you are getting a good deal on boxing day

Instead of getting the KDL-40S300, get the KDL-40V3000

I would say that you check out these TV's in person and compare them. I could have gotten a 50" Samsung for the same price but decided to go with the Sony 40V. Amazing quality. Not a single problem ever since I bought it.

I was in the same boat as you and I was tempted to buy the 40S because it was a little bit cheaper.

I am glad I bought the 40V, I had it for 3 months now and it was a great purchase.

It is 1080p and the color is just amazing. It has quick toggle 4 settings for the picture: Standard, Vivid, Cinema, and Custom.

Also easy to navigate through the menu, similar to the Ps3 menu.

Yeah i just bought this tv as well i think it was 2000 including the sony hometheatre system(greatsound). Amazing tv 1080p is wicked and its not to much more. NFL HD on this tv makes me not leave my house on sundays haha and gaming is about as good as it gets. I would most definitley recommend the 1080p

Panasonic Viera

I've never been happier with a TV.

I was looking into getting this too, stopped me because it was a little bit steep for the budget and it is a plasma (energy consumption, average 400 watts as to an LCD with the same size 100 watts usage).

Viera's have one of the most crisp and clean pictures I have seen while browsing at Best Buy.
