these should be a T5 transmission. If you're wanting to do an engine swap all you should need is the proper bell housing.
Actually the V6 models came with a better gear ratio in the rear end than the v8 models so that's something to think about.
Overall though the V6's are decent engines and the gas mileage is great. I had one in a firebird and it was a snappy little car.
I'd be all over this if I had the cash right now.
Someone buy this car!!!

01-01-2008, 07:03 PM
I had the exact same car with less mileage in better shape, and i only got 2900 for mine. It was 87 V6 5 spd. 129000 kms.

Just thought id chime in here.

Eddy
01-02-2008, 01:52 PM
yeah but iam talking a rebuilt engine with not even 500 km on it

dubcity
01-03-2008, 02:00 AM
rebuilt or not 4000 is a hell alotta money for a camaro with a major identity crisis
i got a 86 iroc with 350TPI and swapped 6spd for 5000
sorry to say it but you could get around 2500 for it

Eddy
01-03-2008, 02:20 AM
ok guys, iam gonna put the price down, but i believe its worth more than 2500, i got offered 3300 before i rebuilt the engine and i didnt sell, anyways guys the new price is gonna be 3500 obo and thats it, no more going down.

Eddy
01-04-2008, 02:41 AM

http://www.usedcalgary.com/classified-ad/4637297&category=sports-cars maybe this will give you an idea. This is almost the same camaro only 7 years newer and alot nicer and much cheaper than yours. Why dont you take a look around to see how much 88- 6 cyl camaro's go for. It doesnt matter how much you paid for it , or how much you put into it. I used to own an Iroc that looked almost the same as yours only it was blue, 5.0-5speed,(non-leaking)t-tops and power everything and it had almost the same kms as yours and I sold it for 2500, 6 years ago. I am not trying to burn you or your thread but I am just letting everyone know what the market is like

someone is looking for a car like this, just not on this site. trust me, i got an 88 Monte Carlo SS, the chances of meselling it to a beyonder is slim to none, even though it has lots of stuff done to it and its mint(not exactly, but soon) you know what i mean though.

Eddy
01-08-2008, 02:11 PM
ohh i know, to be honest with u i got lotta interest from posting it on kijiji, lota guys called and they wanna see it and they offered me what iam asking for, i dont know whats up with these guys on beyond, they just wanna make it look like ur car is worth nothing and they dont even have interest in it !! wierd..
anyways thanks for the advice, i have my car on kijiji and its about to get sold.

01-10-2008, 05:20 PM

Don't sweat some of the morons posting here, basically, they're giving you a hard time because the car is not an import. Most of the cars sold on here are imports.

For example, guy above, drives a Honda Accord and is bashing a V6 Camaro? :dunno:

You can probably get 3 grand for your car, good luck with sale.

Eddy
01-11-2008, 02:39 AM
thanks buddy finally someone has brains on this website,

Fire_chickin
01-11-2008, 03:55 PM
Yeah don't worry about it. It's a long shot to find a buyer for a domestic on here.
Most still think fart can make their shit boxes go faster.
They can't bear the thought that a car that costs less than 5 gs can out perform their 4 banger money pits.
I had a lot of fun pissing the import crowd off with my V6 'bird. Anyone who buys this car will have the same pleasure... and they'll have a car with some style to boot.
Someone buy this car. It's worth every penny of $3,000

403Gemini
01-11-2008, 04:20 PM
I wonder how much an LS1 Swap would cost...
Honestly a shell in that good of condition, with a 5 speed tranny.... id say 3k easy.

Good luck with the sale, honestly if i had the money/room in the garage i'd scoop that up

Fire_chickin
01-11-2008, 05:47 PM
You're looking at about 12-15 hours of labour costs plus the engine and parts. Either that or a big bill at the liquor store if you get your buddies to help you do it instead.
But everyone is forgetting this thing has a fresh V6 in it. Good on fuel and enough go to be fun.
Clean body and a fresh rebuild = easily worth 3k.

ShelbyMopar
01-11-2008, 08:37 PM
Twin turbo project on that sucker?

Looks like there is a ton of room under the hood with the V6, a TT system looks like it could be done without alot of hassle. And honestly, that shell is mint.

If you don't sell it in the next little while, I might give you an offer for it.

Eddy
01-12-2008, 12:20 PM
thanks guys, finally someone apriciates these nice cars, it is lota fun and it can beat any honda any time.
the car is still for sale, i had some people look at it yesterday, no good offers yet.
anyone knows how much would it cost to install a twin turbo in this car? it sounds like a good idea

sr20s14zenki
01-12-2008, 12:28 PM
^^^speed costs money...how fast do you want to go?

to do a twin turbo on that would cost quite a bit.

manifolds: about 2000$ for good stainless ones
turbos: around 1600$ atleast for two good t28s
injectors: another 500$
FMIC: around 1400$ including piping and fab time, unless you want to back yard it, which would make it cheaper
engine management: about 1300$ for a standalone
Exhaust that will flow: ill go low at 500$

so about 6300$, add in enuff for snags and problems, round it to 7000$....not to mention that i doubt that engine in stock form, rebuilt or not, would take boost with a smile.

Eddy
01-12-2008, 03:52 PM
wow that much hey? i think its cheaper to just put headers in and chip the computer.

Eddy
01-12-2008, 03:54 PM
i want up to 250 HP

Fire_chickin
01-12-2008, 04:04 PM
yeah for 250hp you'd be better off doing a v8 swap. You're talking about gaining almost 100hp

But honestly the best money spent for those engines is a cold air intake, a custom exhaust (cause the stock are extremely restrictive) and yeah chipping the computer will help.

That'll probably gain you about 25-30hp.

Stay running synthetic oil and you're good to go.

Twin turbos would be awesome but the amount of money you're going to spend just doesn't make sense. You could put and amazing v8 in for that kinda cash.

Another thing you could look into is whether or not vortec heads are available for that size. I've never looked into it but that would make a huge difference and a used set of those would be pretty cheap.

Wow... I think you've added a lot of unnecessary cost to that bill..

If you can do it yourself, it will cost ALOT less. A single HX35 or HY35 from a Cummins diesel can be had for under $350 bucks, which would give you NICE low-mid range power in a 2.8 V6 (if you can read compressor maps, you'll understand better).
Injectors won't be 500 bones for low impedence injectors, try 250... 4 high performance low impedence injectors, 550cc injectors, cost me 200 bucks brand new from Mopar.
Manifolds, make your own equal length setup, and weld on a single T4 flange? Could easily be done for under $600.
FMIC- BIG Ebay intercooler- 150 bucks shipped to your door, which will leave your charge pipes ice cold at over 20 PSI of boost.
Intercooler plumbing- SS or polished aluminum mandrel bends, 2.5", will run you $250 bucks, then add some silicone couplers and T-clamps for another $100 bucks.
K&N cone filter- $40
3" exhaust, mandrel bent all the way back, with some race mufflers, will cost around 500 bucks if you can weld yourself.
Engine management- why standalone? You have an EPROM chip in your car. Take the old EPROM out, socket your ECU, have someone who knows how to reprogram Chev EPROMS make you a chip for your specs, and your set. I've got an EPROM burner and eraser  Could have it all done for under 300 bucks.

So lets say $500 for the turbo, and oil lines.
Injectors, $250
Making your own high flow equal length manifolds- $600
Ebay intercooler- $150
Intercooler plumbing, + intake- $400 bucks
Exhaust- $500
ECU- $300

For around 3 grand, you could run around 7 psi of boost on your stock rebuilt internals, which could EASILY give you in excess of 250 HP. If you break anything, go forged, and a bigger turbo, and hell, you could meet goals of 400+ WHP.

I've been down this route before, except using junkyard Holset turbos and a TBI 350. Honestly, a turbo setup is NOT as expensive as people think it is. If you can do your own work, or even have a buddy who can weld, your costs are substantially decreased.

:burnout:

sr20s14zenki
01-15-2008, 09:50 PM
^^^i agree with you totally, BUT, if you dont know how to weld, and dont know how to fabricate a manifold, youre stuck getting somebody else to do it. You dont want to make it out of anything junky, you would want to use a good grade of stainless piping, stainless=tig welding=time=monnnneeyyy. As for the turbo, yes thats a good turbo, and would work awesome in that setup. As for the injectors, 500 was just a guess, dont forget, he has 6...lets just go middle and say 300$. As for the rest, yes i agree, if you can find somebody to program a 2.8L eprom ;)

as for the turbo, he said twin turbo so i went with that, single turbo would be better, altho in that case you would have to build a crossover pipe, but yah, that would work. I was trying to go with worst case scenario too, most expensive, then you can factor in the corner cutting methods. Dont forget too that i was going all new goodies, and most t28 NEW go for about 800$. I feel the best piece of mind is with new VITAL parts, such as turbo, injectors, etc.
:D

Good idea for a setup tho man, i like the way you think hehe

ShelbyMopar
01-17-2008, 02:15 PM
lol, yeah man, I try to find the best performance/price ratio possible :burnout:

Turbo's usually last longer than the vehicle they are in anyway, so buying used or rebuilt doesn't bother me at all, new prices are just ridiculous sometimes.

If you wanted to build a turbo setup, it would be in your best interest to learn how to weld or make friends with somebody who does, because the custom fabrication is where most of the time and money really lies.

I could see a good system built for around 3 grand, + recal of the EPROM. If your not doing it yourself, easily double

BTW, is the car sold yet?

hey guys, i decided i wanna put headers and chip the computer, does anyone know were is the best place to do that with a good price? and do u guys know how much hp i can add by doing that?
thank u

ShelbyMopar
01-18-2008, 07:15 AM
I order alot of my stuff from the states, so I'd reccomend summitracing.com.

They can get a company called Motorvation to make you a chip as well I believe, will cost around 350 bucks though.

As for HP, on a 2.8 V6, I wouldn't expect more than 10-15 from headers and a revised chip... But the car will sound alot nicer with the headers
