coolest little fuel misers. As all you guys know it is the geo metro aka. sprint, firefly. I forgot about gas stations for 4 weeks, driving it for...... 4 weeks. It was a loaner, but man neat little turbo 3 cylinder. Even though it was at beater status when i drove, deserved much more respect. GO LITTLE TURBO! is what I said when the turbo light when on driving in the fastlane on deerfoot

For some sick reason, ive always wanted to do upgrades on a sprint turbo....forged pistons, t3 turbo, 550cc injectors,2" exhaust...that would make it go (=

These are the cars everyone wants to own.

The Honda Fit is kind of cool though

I would like someone to prove that the Prius can get 48 mpg.

That list wouldn't be valid in Canada. The Toyota Hybrids that use synergy drive would be turning the gasoline engine on a lot more often in the winter in order to provide in-cabin heat.

Still pretty impressive that the Corolla gets better gas mileage than the Fit though.

^ I was always wondering how that work with those things

Good to know.

I'm not surprised that all those cars listed are as bad as they are, HP takes gas to produce, especially in conjunction with all those cylinders. :dunno:

funny enough my 1992 protoge beats everything but the top 3 fuel efficient cars. And if you were to do real world numbers on those cars I bet I beat more of them. but where's my rebate feds?

funny to start seeing a lot of cars get better mpg in city driving

i suppose thats due to the electric motor being used more frequently

i still hate hybrids though lol

Since this is a US list, I would assume they only included vehicles you can buy in all states. I dont think that diesels comply with California emissions.

Show your math. The 92 protege doesn't even beat #10 and at best has a rating of 27 combined on the new epa scale. 24/33 if you want to compare to the chart above.

That car would be a super sleeper if looking stock, but would be hard to find good 13" tires.

I'm sure the Fit gets around 38mpg on the highway. Just a hunch from user input.
Surprised how good the corolla is.

FAIL! Again, the test changed! Quoted MPG is always American gallons, not Imperial.

US Dept of Energy:

http://www.fueleconomy.gov/

Fit (seats 5, far superior crash rating) 28/34

CRX (seats 2, crash = death) 29/37

Smart Car (Seats 2, better CRX in a crash) 33/41

Civic Hybrid (Seats 5, super crash rating) 40/45

New car = winnar.

Interesting that the Yaris auto scored so high and all the GM hybrids didn't even make the list.

Aren't all GM hybrids suvs right now?

The list of most efficient is pretty much what I would expect - nothing I would want to be stuck driving on a daily basis.

There's the new Saturn Aura. THat's not an SUV. And the silverado, although it is atruck.

Vue and Malibu are light hybrids. Basically easing the need for electrical equipments relying on alternator for electrical draw.

Denli and a few trucks are full hybrids but it will never make it on this list because they still use more fuel than a 3.5L Camry. But impressive none of the less for a 5L V8 5000lb vehicle.

Canadian MPG is higher than American MPG as our gallon is bigger.

Ok points to you - that special model still gets amazing numbers even on the newer scale.

I've never seen one - could you drive it nowadays with its crazy tall gearing? Wouldn't it have a 0-60 time of like 18 seconds? :D I'm thinking it's like an aircooled bus or something.

World of Wheels mag that I looked thru showing all the 08 cars/trucks you could buy in Canada shows the new 08/09 hybrid Tahoe getting under 10l/100kms in the city, that's better than the 3.5L Camry.

The HF was was built for fuel economy, and only available in the US. In Canada we got the VX in 92.

Wasnt there just a form on how the Toyota Prius was VERY UN ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY because of the way it is made?
As i remember the Batter and stuff are made with SOO much chemicals that it is so bad for the environment that a Hummer was more environmentally friendly then a prius.

Chicken Warrior
02-20-2008, 11:38 AM
I've heard that about Smarts because of their plastic bodies, but I won't believe any of it without a propper source (which I've yet to find).

If you do your research, you find it was just more propaganda.

There was ONE study done, and all it stated was that from begining to end, the hummer uses less energy than a prius, but, more energy doesn't necessarily mean more damaging to the environment.

I thought I remember those old Chevy Sprints (with the 3 cylinder) got over 60 mpg?
