Don't seem to be a topic area for this so general will have to do.
I was wondering if anyone has gone to the trouble to do a little room treatment as in first reflection absorption?
What kind of materials are used?
I don't want to get to complicated but if a few panels are cheap and easy to make I'd be interested!

I have a friend that hung rugs on his walls - apparently that made a world of difference for him.

Interesting...what type of rug? Just the regular floor stuff with all the fancy patterns?
Or was it more the decorative expensive types?

way back when we had a band set up in the basement we used sliding thick wool (ugly) drapes on two walls and then used egg cartons on the other two. We could adjust the room proiperties by sliding the drapes...ugly as hell but very effective.

You can also get professional foam that is cut specifically for sound control. We have it on the ceiling in our boardroom at work.

They were the sames ones you would put on your floor I believe, but they were definately very nice. From what I remember they were quite pricey, but that may be because he was very picky in having them match exactly with the existing decor.

Egg Cartons, Curtains and Rugs won't do much, acoustically speaking.

Try to get your hands on some rigid fiberglass and wrap it with fabric.

I guess it depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Sound control or absorbtion? they are two different things.
