Interesting turbo and exhaust port/manifold placement... 400 hp/ 450 ft-lbs of torque apparently.

Very interesting turbo placement.

Thats pretty cool.
Looks the exhaust valves are on the inside of the V, direct injection, and no cam shafts.
Also those turbo exhaust housings look pretty small. Looks like they were going for zero turbo lag.

They look like a similar size to those used in 911 turbos... still a fair bit of room to play :p You can also see the timing chains in the fourth and sixth pics, they just didn't put the cams in because they're not cool haha

Cool! Haven't ever seen that before. I wonder what models it is set to go in. Good numbers out of it too. Probably a Vishnu tune away from some pretty amazing numbers I would guess.

It doesn't say displacement, but guessing is still only 4L or maybe less?
...with lower compression, and such small AR/turbine wheels, I'm guessing it'll have significantly more torque than hp rated...

...sure wish they didn't cover all that up...I don't care for the whole facade engine coverings trend :barf:

Doesn't the V12 have the same hp rating? The 750iL hauls ass. But anything north of 400 horse is too much for the street. Anyways that's one beautiful piece of engineering.

The real news is the top-of-the-line model known as the xDrive50i. It's the first BMW to use the company's new twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8. Like the smaller inline-6, the all-aluminum V8 uses direct injection to help deliver both efficiency and big power. Rated to produce 400 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque,

Hmm, if it has no cams what conrols the valves? Or is it just the way they choose to show it in the picture?

haha ya sorry i was confused with another BMW technology of not using a throttle body, and using valve timing to control the amount of air/fuel the engine consumes.
