I saw on the news a week ago that a few wal-marts are now 24hr in Calgary.

Just wanting to know for future reference.

Anybody know which ones?

So if I were to hop in my car and drive over to the Marlborough Wal-Mart, it would be opened?

You betcha!

Fucking pathetic. This is like the most exciting thing to happen in Calgary since Y2K.

The deerfoot mall one is open 24hrs now as well. Went there a few nights ago after work. It's kind of strange seeing so many people working there with no uniforms on, shelves were nice and full though.

Yep I visited the Shawnessy one at 2am the night before I flew out because I needed to buy some small things. I absolutely HATE going to Wal-mart because the store is a shit hole and there are kids crying everywhere....but at 2am it's just pure silence.

I noticed a couple nurses walking around shopping. Definately caters to people working weird shifts.

Don't you guys read?

http://calsun.canoe.ca/News/Alberta/2008/01/04/4752223-sun.html :

The round-the-clock Calgary stores will be at Westbrook and Marlborough Malls, at 57 Ave. and 11 St. N.E. and at Macleod Tr. at Shawnessy.

Ah I knew it! I drive by that Wal-Mart everyone morning at like 7 before going to work and I see so many cars parked outside (well not that much, but quite a bit considering Wal-Mart opens at 8 usually on weekdays).

That article does not mention Deerfoot Mall, which is open 24 as well.

Actually, it does mention it. It's the 57 Ave. and 11 St. N.E. location.
Probably doesn't mention "Deerfoot Mall" because it's not in the mall.

After living somewhere that had several 24 stores such as Wal-Mart and Meijer, there is NOTHING cooler than being able to go shopping at 2:30 on a Friday night!! This is VERY exciting and very cool!

Unfortunately not Royal Oak yet but Westbrook isn't too far so that works for me.

Now we just ened a couple of supercentres that are 24hr... i went to the one in edmonton... man, that thing reminded me so much of the commercial about the bus in the department store... it was insane... and all of the shelving is fairly low so you can see clear across the place and that makes it feel even bigger.

Don't get me wrong I love Calgary, but I am from hick town ON and we lots of 24 hour stuff. There is nothing more fabulous than waking up at 3 am and doing your grocery shopping with nobody around. It's fabulous. With all the self checkouts there is no reason we shouldn't have more 24 hour stuff.

Yah Calgary is really backwards when it comes to a lot of things.. small cities in Ontario have 24 hr MacDonalds & Burger King.. try finding one open after 10pm in most cases they are closed already haha

not the Southland one I was at the Southland one a couple weeks ago, and I read a sign that said they're closing early for Christmas holidays (midnight) and were going back to 24 hours after that.

 Kinda cool to have it open 24/7. In summer, you can be working on your car at 2:00 AM and decide you wanna change your oil...Head down to Walmart and there you have it.

Edit: Now all they need to do is start carrying beers like how the states do.

^^ When I visited Seattle, I was in tears when I saw 2 aisles full of booze in a Walmart at like 1am in the morning. I then blacked out when I saw it was only $16 for a 24 of beers!!!

This is a scary concept. Look at the people who shop at Wal-Mart during the day, the ones who will come out at night.

If you're ever feeling sad or depressed, take a visit to the Marlbrough Walmart and it will cheer you right up.

The Germans have a word for this, Schadenfreude, "Happiness at the misfortune of others".

:werd: :werd: just got home from the Shawnessy one from 12am... there was this 30-ish couple who bitched about some Wii prices. In the glass shelf the store probably misplaced or mislabeled "Mario Paper" (or some shit like that), the tag wasn't written for "Mario Paper" but for $39.99 and the game was placed in front of it. This game's suppose to sell for $49.99 (from what my buddy told me) And the couple bickered the fact that it's "advertised" for $39.99 with the game placed in that colum, blah blah blah

They probably think they're the coolest 30yo parents out there, and probably driving some compact SUV Jeep Liberty or Escape like it's a Hummer/Expedition.

Anyways +1 for 24 hours

Has anybody ever been inside a Super Wal-Mart? I've only read about them; would be really curious how it compares to just a regular Wal-Mart.

The biggest difference is a full service grocery store and a few more restaurants/hair salons etc. Otherwise it's much like a regular walmart

Yeah I'm a regular Wal-Mart night owl, extremely excited that they are now open 24/7 - particularly since i live about 2 minutes from Westbrook.

Westbrook ftw.

I'm stoked to hear this, I'm a bit of a night owl myself.

And by a bit, I mean lunch is usually 2:00 in the morning.

Macleod @ Southland is not 24hr. Macleod @ Shawnessy is, or will be.

WRONG.

I had to find this thread as I happened to walk into the Marlborough Walmart today...no signs of it open 24hrs, the sign on the door says open until 11pm.

I don't see myself shopping at 3am, especially at Walmart...but people in this thread seem to think the Marlborough one is 24hr??

Is that at Memorial and 36th? That's weird...did you ask anyone who worked there? I wonder if the signs on the door just haven't been changed yet.

From their website:
3835 Memorial Dr. N.E.
City: Calgary
Province: AB
Postal Code: T2A 2K2
Main Intersection:MEMORIAL DR & 36 ST
Phone: 403-235-2352
Fax: 403-272-2940

Mon - Sun: Open 24 hours

And I just phoned the store now (11:40 pm Thurs) and they said they're open 24 hrs.
