Are these meant to be a redesign or a freshening up?

Are there any specs on these or have they just livened up the exterior. What's the source?

  Absolutely stunning, too bad we won't get those seats here thanks to fat ass North Americans.

And yeah, i think it's just a freshen up.

nikka
01-14-2008, 11:58 AM
it kinda looks liek they made it taller and just small changes like lights, body kit, rims. i dont really see a change in the outside, but the inside is money. and like veryone else said, the seats are awesome.

Ummmm yeah, this version is the sexist RX-8 yet.

Love the new front end... frigging Cayenne Turbo air inlets, sweet. And finally an improved set of rear tail-lights... though nothing unique, they're better than the prev. gen's. This new RX-8 look awesome.

This is essentially a mild refresh. Looks very nice though. Too bad it's saddled with such a weak engine.

JordanEG6

not a fan of the RX-8 or it's power plant, but I like the look of the new, more aggressive front end. I also like the Recaro seats and the wheels. Other than that, it looks pretty much the same to me.

looks like they're offering a new trim level as well:

To cater to the driving-conscious enthusiast, the 2009 RX-8 will offer a new R3 sport package. Providing the very best in rotary-powered motoring, the R3 harkens back to the R1 and R2 packages offered on the mighty third-generation RX-7, and adds a sport-tuned suspension with Bilstein shock absorbers and front suspension crossmembers filled with urethane foam. Filling the crossmembers makes for a smoother ride, minimized NVH and greater suspension control.

not a big fan of the wheels. Needs a slight drop then it'll be perfect stance!!
Those steering wheel looks like an aftermarket design... not bad not bad...
And those seats looks really sexy!! But the Mazdaspeed verison is straight bucket, not even reclineable, perfect for track enthusist!!

IncredibleToad
01-15-2008, 01:23 AM
Much more aggressive now, especially those seats...well done.

However, those chromed out wheels and the blue hub center on the MS version makes me want to hurt myself

Is the speedometer able to read in excess of 199 KM/H? It doesn't look like there's enough space there for a '2'.

That looks great, reminds me a lot of the RX7. Too bad it's sooo slow and the gas mileage is so bad. I'd love to own/drive one.

I'm loving it! I came really close to buying one 4 years ago but if the power numbers improve, I might strongly consider it again.

doesn't look different at all, i was really hoping for mazda to step it up since the release of the mzd3, mzd6 and rx-8 which were greatly designed and equipped for the release date.

it looks like the current RX-8 with a body kit on it.

I still maintain though that the rotary is a much better powerplant than most give it credit for. However, I think Mazda should create a Mazdaspeed version of this with a turbo. Then, and only then, would it be a complete car.

K so I want experienced people to answer my question:

How bad are the rotaries? People shit talked domestics reliability so much and in the last 6 years of me owning 2 domestic cars i've had 0 problems...

So really, how bad are the rotaries? Are all of the people saying "man too bad they suck for reliability" ... are they essentially regurgitating info they've heard elsewhere?

I seriously like the rx-8's... even the 04-08's look good to me and i may consider one for my next car (can find some 04's for about 22-24k right now).

The 09's... are fucking delicious looking.

ekguy

i had an fc and the only repairs I ever had to do was a clutch, and it's cuz it was babied by the first owners then I got it and started doing 5 to 7k rpm launches, and 3 sets of rear tires in 3 months. Had it a little over a year and never ever had issues with it. But with that said I've heard both sides of the table with the new renesis engines. Some people say reliable some say not. I would also love to own one of these someday.

I agree. Sometimes I look at them and think they are hot. Other times they look too busy and not clean enough. Like most Mazda's the interior looks good new but doesn't age well. I know a guy that owned one and he complained about the leather seats cracking within a year as well as a bunch of annoying rattles that developed.

They should get back to a 2 seater RX-7. RX-8 while practical, looks bloated.

I didn't notice this before but I like the rotary 'symbols' in the wheels of the normal RX-8 (the blue one).
