The insurance companies are going to make a fortune on collision insurance for these punks now.

dont like that front bumper very much
but a nice car still.
not everyone who buys a JDM is a fan boy;)
as for kids with not enough driving experience being allowed to drive these that is a different story. Guess some will learn the hardway

not only will they crash these high powered rockets but i'm sure some little dickweed teenagers who get these will eventually take out a family of innocent people. There should seriously be laws implemented to keep high powered cars out of the hands of people under the age of 21.

Honestly this is nothing new. Parents buy their kids bimmers and benzes all the time.

there is a big difference between let's say a 300ish hp bimmer or mercedes and a supra someone brings in with 600 to 700 hp which is bound to happen. Some kids with rich parents who don't know better will be eventually buying their kids high powered supras not knowing a toyota that is 15 years old could be that powerfull

Whats the difference between this and a GTR? They make the same power. 16 year olds have had access to a lot of power for a while, I managed to roll my 140 hp when I was 16, I can only imagine what I would have done to myself with no experience driving and 3 to 4 times that. Its not a safe place for new drivers.

i love how you guys are pissed that you can now buy a more affordable supra... if you dont want a $15,000 mkiv then shut up and dont buy one. no one is holding a gun to your head. I know i love the mkiv but cant afford $45,000 so I will be buying one. whats the problem with that :whipped:

ekguy
01-17-2008, 10:55 AM
personally I would love an mkiv but it's the rhd drive that would bother me. If I'm going to bother a rhd car it's going to be a Mazda Cosmo. 20b power FTMFW. But seriously this is the only other car I would consider buying rhd. Everything else is either just a fad or just another shitty gts-t. A GTR is ok, so are rarer cars, but rx7's, 300zx's, and 240's can all be had here.

what is with all the hate against teenagers here? STOP TALKING ABOUT PHYSICAL AGE, AND START TALKING ABOUT MATURITY, I just turned 18, and i have the common sense not to race. A 17 year old vs a 25 year old have just the same possiblity of racing this beast.

o and ps, i just pulled this stat off the interweb

Drivers age 15-20 accounted for 12.9 percent of all the drivers involved in fatal crashes and 16 percent of all the drivers involved in police-reported crashes in 2006.

that means that 87.1% of fatal car accidents involve drivers over 20 years old. You all have to stop stereotyping teenagers here

You're an idiot. Assuming that people stop driving at the age of 70 (lots keep driving after this), that still means that those people between 15-20 make up just 9% of the driving population, and yet they're involved in 13% of fatal accidents and 16% of all accidents. Use your brain when reading statistics  Teenagers suck at driving.

BTW I'm a teenager too, so don't pull the age card when I say you're retarded.

Actually I quoted your post, called you an idiot and then went on to explain why. You're the one who pulled out some statistics and made some bullshit claims about how 15-20 year old drivers aren't in more accidents, and now you're saying "well, they cause ABOUT the same" after I called you on it? Please. Let me put this into perspective for you, because you're clearly incapable of putting together simple thoughts.

There were 453 people killed in collisions in Alberta in 2006 (I don't know what country/rpovince your stats are pertinent to). Teens make up 9% of drivers and are in 13% of fatal accidents, which means that they're involved in 4% more fatal crashes. That's 18 extra people dead, per year. There's a 7% difference in non-fatal collisions as well, and there were 25964 injured in collisions in 2006. Thats 1800 extra people injured in collisions involving teenages. So fuck you when you say that ABOUT 10% of teenagers cause ABOUT 10% of the accidents.

RWD vs AWD

how to fuck is some dumb 16 y.o. kid gonna know how to handle a powerful RWD, there going to try to drift king every corner, eventually leading to a little bit to much throttle and going into a spin on a residential street.

At least with a GTR being AWD its way harder to lose control (not that its that hard to do) but compared to a supra. shit any idiot can loose control of a car with 60 hp. but comparing GTR to Supra here.

Its not just a matter of everyone hating on these stupid trust fund punks.

its fucking experiance and maturity, would you get your kid a 300 hp RWD car for his very first? no i dont think so.

you would probably get him a godamn civic with 103 hp. then teach him how to drive, get some experiance and then maybe slowly move up into faster cars.

Back on topic: 15g's is DAMN cheap for a turbo 6spd MK IV, and that's a CLEAN fkn example.

That kijiji ad is just someone trying to sell something they don't have for a quick buck. Buy from Terra2 (or wherever else it was listed: plz see page1 for more infos kthxbi) only after they have a buyer on the line.

No advertising costs on a lot of these sites, and in a lot of cases they end up with something for nothing - in this case $4g's.

I honestly don't think that the extra power will cause worse accidents....come on, any shiet car can go like 130 + and be danger to the public. If the person is an idiot, then they will be an idiot with whatever car they drive.

but not knowing how to handle the power....that is a whole other debate.

My arguement is that people are so quick to say that a teenager is just going to get that car purchased for him by the parents and he WILL race, spin out, crash into a puppy store, then spin out into a loaded church, or some BS along those lines. And what i say, is why do people like to stereotype teens against all these fatal car accidents, when of the 453 people that died last year, Only about 43 or so are caused by teen drivers. Now who are you more worried about causing a fatal accident that 9% <20 years old, or the 91% that are >21.

Trailer trash roots  People are quick to say that teenagers are going to crash a car because it's true. Even the statistics you failed to properly interpret show this. Maybe if you'd stop crying about how everyone on the internet is judging you (take that Rosa Parks!) for being young, you'd be able to stop and apply some basic mathmatics of your own. Only 43 people killed  I wish I could look at it like that.. I say alot of you guys need to grow up. First you complain about the 15 year rule being gay and unfair because you can`t drive your skylines, soarers and such. Now when JDM supras are available suddenly everyone is choked because some punk kids are gonna own one.

Don`t get me wrong, i completely agree that some will abuse the power. But don`t ruin it for the rest of the people who are actually willing to be responsible while owning a car they dreamed of owning. Some peoples dreams of owning a supra are unreachable because of a 45k price tag. However, now the same car is available with a 15k price tag just because its a RHD and has probably been driven to shits.

I'm sure if your parents handed you the keys to a JDM supra when you got your license you'd gracefully accept it and ball the fk out for the avg teenager.

DRIVE RESPONSIBLY and all is fine.

My 2 cents: I like the MKIV Supra over all other years. Just my preference. I think it has more potential than the R32 and maybe even the R33 (my personal fav). But the R34 is the cats ass, for no absolutely reason whatsoever.

Giving a teenager ANY powerful car at all is like giving them a box full of porn, a jar of vasaline and telling him to watch all he wants but only jack off in safe controlled, supervised settings (with a rescue vehicle nearby). :D

At 25 I still commit random acts of jackassery, but some how it's always never close to some of the dumb shit that teenagers with no driving/racing experience think they can get away with. I don't need stats to prove it to me, I've seen it first hand. It is you, young, opinionated, and inexperienced drivers that must prove me wrong, not the other way around.

But hey there is no one on this online fourm that can stop your parents from you buying a casket... at least you get to pick the shape and colour. Just make sure and check the donor box, cuz there are people that could use the spare parts. Car parts too!

To tell you the truth I would absolutely love to get that style of supra RHD or not, its just such a shame that the people who love these cars and know how to respect the power, are going to have to compete with total teenage jackasses also having them.

There shouldnt be anything against the RHD cars themselvs, because quite simply a car is a car is a car. its just the fact that the MAJORITY of people driving RHD are kids who had their parents buy it for them (not all people, i said the majority. dont argue), not to mention they have given JDM a bad rep with the law as well, like seriously when your rolling down macleaod. you have a cop in the middle lane, a 17 y.o in a skyline in the right lane and you have another 17 y.o in a honda or toyota and all you hear is VRROOOOOOOOOMMMMMm***PSSSHHHHHHHHH the cops are instantly pulled to the punk.

Ding ding ding ding congras your another imature punk look past the "just because im young doesnt make me a bad driver" attitude you sound like a doushe you wanna know the real reason teens are involved in more fatal/ racing/ speeding accidents other than just inexpierence? teens are more willing to push thier cars to the absolut limit i dont care how good of a driver you are when your in a corner and you can feel the car about to break lose and you hit a bump/gravel patch/wet spot whatever your cars gone, seeing how fast they can go and can't judge how long it will take them to stop get what im saying drivers with less experience pushing their cars to the limit in unknown conditions 99% of whom do not even know the limit of their cars.

older drivers know the reponsibilitys they have out way fucking around in a car family, no license how you gonna get to work if you get hurt whats your wife / kids gonna do , dont wanna risk jail time /fines

now i just turned 18 but im an expention im awsome

hey buddy, not to go off topic or take a personal attack at you but stevo 27 is a pretty sweet guy. so please fuck off.
also, i dont get it, why there is so much hate against this car. its amazing peice of machinery. people should be happy that it is becoming more affordable (other then people who own them). hate the people that bring them in and drive them badly, not the car itself come on...

so no, you sir need to fuck off.

For once I agree with you...

You can build a mustang for way cheaper and have 2x the horsepower, and half the handling.

Hah, i haven't seen an mx3 that impressed me. What is it they all swap in to run 14's...klze is it?

You dont have to lecture me on how fast honda's can be....i know it....there are plenty out there way faster than my car (not that mine is anything special anyway).

End of the day, a civic isn't a mk4 supra......and most beyond members are broke ass who dont infact have "all this work done" that you speak of.

Id far rather drive a bpu supra running high 12's than a 10 second civic. Im not really a fan of ridiculously unbalanced cars and torque steer (call me crazy). There's a whole lot more to a car than straight line acceleration.

PS: Learn how to use the words "their/there/they're".

It doesn't matter if someone regardless of age, sex, driving experience, etc, hops behind the wheel of a RHD or a LHD vehicle, it's all about the driver's attitude and it has nothing to do with the car.
I just think anyone who hates on a car because of stereotypes on drivers doesn't deserve to be acknowledged as a true car enthusiast... so this is probably the wrong place to be.

This thread has made me face palm more than watching the Fast and Furious trilogy followed by all the seasons of Initial D in series. It seems that you all need to come down to where I am in the States. You guys can have GTRs, Escort Cosworths, JZA80s, Rallye Golfs, etc. Here in the US, I wont be able to buy a 1989 GTR until 2014. You are the most fortunate on the North American continent. Yeah, we may get newer Evos but you can get early STis and Evos. I'm going to be going to school in either Toronto or Vancouver next year and hope to import a Rallye Golf or Escort Cosworth. Holy hell, I forgot that you guys can even get the Audi RS2! Fuck, don't take what you have for granted. Yeah some young people will get a hold of some fast imports, and they may even hurt someone innocent. They could also get a hold of a fast non-imported car and hurt someone. Be thankful that your government actually gives two shits about enthusiasts.

Good post, 5 years ago we were in the same position. The cars that were 15 years old were hardly worth importing, and it seemed too good to be true that some decent vehicles would soon become eligible for import.

Sadly our government doesn't give a shit about enthusiasts either, they just never imagined that 15 year old cars would become valuable in our market. This rule comes from the 80's. There are some in the Canadian government that want to restrict free trade further and deny us even these 15 year old cars.

you know i must agree, because people can import the mkivs they are going to get less and less rare. and yes people with little driving experience and little time on the track shouldnt be allowed to drive one but the reality is that they will get their hands on it. i was relatively young when i picked up my m5, ive taken the thing to the track a couple of times before i even opening her up a little on the road.

these cars have some very high potential. but i agree with the one poster above where the gtr had more potential because it could actually use the power due to the grip of the awd vs just spinning the tires on the rear. the supra wont be able to get as much speed to the ground. but it'll have more trouble keeping grip in corners. either way they need a more experienced driver behind the wheel. whether it be a 600 hp Supra, a 500 hp Skyline, or a 700 hp Mustang fastback.

/agree

no matter what car someone has, there is a potential to go fast... no matter if its LHD or RHD.

the LHD owners are obviously upset because this will hurt the value of their cars but the argument that a bunch of high-school kids will get it is kinda irrelevant... you can make just as much power with the same cash in a mustang etc.

it will be a fad for a while and then it will die down, the people who bought the RHD supras will regret it when they wont be able to sell them. so just wait out the fad.

i dont care if their parents buy for them, its their money they can do what they want with it. but its the parents that buy high hp cars for their kids as their first car, and think they wont crash it. sure there are kids that are really mature and think with their heads and will have no problems, but most of the time they will crash the car trying to impress their friends, etc. its not whether the fact that the parents buy the cars for their kids, but its the fact that because of them my insurance is deadly high. i have no problem with people importing these, but i hope any parents reading this: please don't buy your kid this for a first car, let them learn the hard way first, learn to appreciate a beater and the freedom of transportation that comes with it.

fk i started out driving a 1985 toyota tercel 4wd wagon that was on its last legs, and i see these 16 year olds getting Z32s, R32s and such for their first car.

And even more obscene is watching that kid drive this 250+ HP car like it was the Pikes Peak Rally on Macleod tr during winter on mistmatched barely-passed-oop tires all because he wanted this twinturbo car now instead of planning ahead and saving up for a winter beater.

out of sheer curiousity, what swap is this? the KLZE? That engine tops out at 500.... above and beyond that the costs go up exponentially. This Aussie company spent over $100k getting it to 1,000hp.
read here
The company that pushed this KL to 1000hp is an Aussie company called Austrack, it is a race car and raced competively against v8 supercars, think Daytona for you Americans but on a track not an oval.

Being a race team I am sure they spent over $100000 on their engine alone and all that R & D wont be just given to anyone. ALso the photos that are around that you will come across from Zoom magazine about the Austrak KL v6 are not 100% genuine. I have heard from a few local people (I am in Australia remember) that the manifolds at least on the photos are dummys. ALso the article doesnt go in depth at all about what they did mentioning that they "Strengthened" the block but not explaining how.

here was the build list

Standard block with reinforced bores
Standard crankshaft (crack tested, ground and balanced)
Engine bearings throughout are ACL
Eagle H-beam rods (balanced)
forged JE pistons and matching rings (balanced)
Standard heads with extensive porting
Ferra oversized valves (remaining valvetrain custom designed by Austrack)
Custom grind camshafts (secret)
Custom fabricated Cam Gears
Twin Garret 340hp bb turbos flowing 1.9 bar (welded up wastegates
Custom fabricated 316 stainless exhaust manifold with equal length 1 7/8" primaries
3'' exhaust
Twin external 45mm Turbosmart wastegates with seperate dump
2x Plazaman air-air intercoolers (600mmx600mm cores)= extra pipework but less weight
Custom aluminium radiator which also cools the oil
Electric waterpump
Custom Intake Manifold using twin 65mm Throttle Bodies (inside 6 bell-mouthed trumpets feed air to the port matched heads)
Twin Turbomaster BOVs just before TB
Race Grade Silicone Hoses
Motec M800 ECU
Ignition= original mazda multi-coil
Twin Bosch 600hp Motorsport fuel pumps
6x 1400cc injectors
2x RRFPR

The KLZE- KLDE engines really have their limits. Unfortunately, those are the only two swaps the MX3 will READILY take.

I don't see what the big deal about teenagers driving a 300hp supra is...

if they don't spend the money on the supra, then they're going to get a mustang gt, a firebird/transam or camaro z28/ss etc. Teenagers have been able to get 300-ish hp RWD cards for decades, what's the big deal?

^one concern could be turbo lag on highway loops or turns (like if someone was to take a highway exit loop and they were gradually accelerating and turbo spooled in they could lose control causing an accident, i know someone that has had this happen to them)

Im not complaing about kids having the HP..

Im complaing as a MKIV Supra owner that my car just wont mean as much to me as it used to be.... Supras are supose to be limited , the same with many other cars...

But these Japanese cars just come in massive shipments and wreck the fun of a rare car. Sure we didnt have Skylines around before , and it was cool to see them , but once they became as common as a civic , it was just MEH!

Could you imagine if we had a million Enzo / Carrera GTs / Zondas / DB9s / GT3s / ect .... They would just be boreing as hell to see.

Anyways my 0.02... My Supra will be for sale , time to find another car that not everyone has.
