View Full Version : Petition for new Race City location!

PremiumRSX
01-17-2008, 11:26 AM
As some of you may know.. race city lease is going to end as of October of 2009. Yes that's next year.

At this point in time, not even a new location has been found to develop a new track and this leaves us with nowhere to hold our drifting competitions, secret street nights, track racing, lapping days and autocross.

Take the initiative to put pressure on the city to build us a new track!

Sign the petition here ... http://www.petitiononline.com/racecity/petition.html AND send a note to your alderman (or the mayor if you are from outside Calgary) both by email and postal mail ... sample below.

List of Alderman/Wards

Lets show council we have thousands of participants and need a new facility!

Re: Race City Motorsport Park

We are writing in support of your initiative to find a new location for Race
City Motorsport Park.

There is an overwhelming majority of motorsport enthusiasts in this city who
are law abiding responsible citizens who seek to continue enjoying their
sport at a proper facility in a safe and legal manner.

With the recent media attention given to street “racing” and the enactment
of several laws to discourage it, the availability of proper racing
facilities can only make the streets safer for all.

In addition to providing a safe and legal place for people to race, the
industry is a major source of revenue for many businesses operating in
Calgary.

The City of Calgary should make it a priority to see that facilities are
made available for motorsport racing events. These types of events can be a
large source of tourism income as well as another one of the many things
Calgary has to offer to people.

Following is a petition of people who are interested in supporting the
initiative to find a new location for the operation of a racing facility in
Calgary.

First time I've ever signed an online petition lol. 520 signatures so far, more than I would have expected :) reading through the list is funny too, so many familiar names haha, and apparently we have a Robert Kubica here in Calgary

  just found this:

"MAY I SUGGEST A SECTION OF THE PROPOSED TRACK BE DESIGNATED TO BMW'S ONLY. THIS WOULD GIVE OUR SUPERIOR DRIVING MACHINES A CHANCE TO PLAY WITHOUT BEING STUNTED BY THE LIKES OF INFERIOR LESS EXPENSIVE VEHICLES."

Show me the money. Everyone who signed should cough up $10 just to prove it.

If the signees appear to be legit, looks like 95% or better are on this one ... and if there are enough signees it can garner some media attention. One of th elocal news outlets should pick it up if there are more than 5k signatures.

man I hope we get a decent track like Sears point or Laguna this time...or Qatar, or Jerez... or.....

anything is better then race city. Last paved in 1974 I believe, with some uber-shitty patch work to hold it over until now.

Spokane is in trouble too,
Raceway Park is for sale

"Spokane Raceway Park will be sold at public auction within 90 days, capping a five-year legal fight by more than 500 limited partners who say they’ve seen no return on investments they made to build the facility in the early 1970s.
The auction was approved today by Superior Court Judge Robert Austin, who granted an order submitted by court-appointed receiver Barry W. Davidson to hire J.P. King Auction Co. Inc., of Gadsden, Ala. The firm will market the 600-acre site nationwide and sell it at public auction by April 13."

Calabogie MotorSports Park is a 5 kilometer road course situated on a 1,200 acre parcel of land in the picturesque town of Calabogie, Ontario. This world-class facility is home to the longest track in Canada, consisting of 20 turns, measuring 40 feet wide, and features a 2,000 foot long straightaway. Since opening in 2006

It's one hour west of ottawa. Gives you an idea what they're capable of doing these days in Canada.

Yes I went to the meeting. We all stood up and introduced ourselves and listed the types of motor sports we represented. I represented the import track and drift venues for everyone on this board. They are trying to raise the awareness of the good things that a local race facility provides to the city. We also need to band together as a common group of motor sports enthusiasts Drag, Track, Oval, Drift, Cars and Bikes alike to make this work. We had Rally and dirt bike enthusiasts there to help support the cause. They don't typically use the track but are concerned motor sport activists that know the importance of a racing facility.

If there is any thing that I can say we need to do it is initially to sign the petition, and please make an effort to represent our cause at the next Calgary Motor sport association. Through this soon to be bonnified association we can lobby the city and Province to assist us in a new proper racing facility!

Also can a moderator sticky this in a better place please??

Hugh
