View Full Version : Part Time jobs? Eb Games? Else where?

I am a University of Calgary student and have a couple days off in the week (good schedule planning ftw!) So I am looking for a part time job somewhere and EB games came to mind (I like games and I wouldn't mind a discount). I've worked serving food as well as 2 grocery stores and I have had a temporary job in a warehouse. I just wanted to find a little information about it before I go, so I know what I'm getting into.

My question is, does anyone know what it is like to work there (EB games)? What to expect from it, what they expect from me? Finally, wage? I am only looking for a part time thing to keep myself busy and to make a couple extra dollars. Maybe someone can suggest another place to work, about three days a week (my days off Tuesday-Thursday and one day on the weekend)? I am not looking for anything dealing with food, been there done that, and I will never work at another grocery store again. Thanks in advance to anyone that can be of assistance!

I used to work part-time at London Drugs when I was in college doing camera and AV sales. Money's about average, but you get a good discount and the work environment is excellent. I actually looked forward to working. They were very flexible with my hours, as long as I got in 16-ish hours a week (usually two evenings and Saturday or Sunday).

They're hiring right now, might be worth checking out.

I applied for the one in Richmond last summer but they wanted cashiers - no thanks. I believe that there was a camera position open last summer but I didn't pursue it. Thanks for the tip though I will check them out aswell!

From my friend's experience at EB Games about a year ago, they expected you to work like you were on commission, even though you got paid about $7-9/h no matter how you did on sales.

It was really the management that made the experience awful, I guess they kept reducing perks, hoping it would be an incentive to work harder.

Try and get a job as a server. I used to work 3 days a week and clear $600 in tips + hourly wage. It was great.

Hey, thanks for the replies. I tried serving one time and I don't like it because customers think they own you, no you don't own me I am not a peice of shit! Liquor store would be good doesn't seem like your balls would be busted there, unless is was around a holidays. As for EB games, I expected the wage to be quite low compared to my other jobs $12-$15/hr but that was with some advancement/full time. Has anyone worked at a liquor store? Is it required that you have knowledge about different products through personal experiences because I do not drink unless it is a special occasion.

Is that $600 in tips for 3 days or a month or what? Where did you work?

I've worked at several restaurants, all casual/fine dining. It's not hard to do if you can schmooze the table and are reasonably attentive. It also helps when the place you're working at is more like the keg (as opposed to Kelseys or something like that).

I spent almost two years there. It was great but then they made me the customer service person and all I did all day was sell smokes and do returns.... Gay porno.

When I worked at the Coventry EB Games last November, I got paid $8.56/hour. I worked about 2 days/week and it wasn't too difficult. I was also working at Superstore that same time.

They hire according to experience but it's very small increments anyhow. The average wage there is 9/hour for regular employees.

It makes a huge difference when you make the job fun and easier by getting to know your co-workers. We got 15% discounts but only with managerial approval and presence.

The stores are really busy especially on Fridays and Sundays and since I was close to a school, kids would come window shopping during lunchtime.
