Car Audio Purchase Help

Hey, i was recently offered a car audio system. Now car audio is typically over my head when it comes to the different types or models/makes.
So i was curious if someone out there could tell me whether this is a good deal or not.
2 12" Rockford punch stage 3 subs in Bassworks 2 port box.
Sony xplode 1200 watt amp

$500 total for it plus an extended service warranty until 2009.
he said he bought them brand new last year.

I would say like 300 for all that and do you really want a sony system they make good tvs but there speakers are awful... One good thing is that sony stuff is reliable though
