TMZ has learned that 2006 Academy Award nominee Heath Ledger has died in NY.

He was found dead in his bed in one of his residences in Soho by his housekeeper at 3:35 PM ET today. Law enforcement sources tell TMZ they believe it was not a crime, adding pills were found near his body.

The 28-year-old actor has a two year old daughter with former fiancee Michelle Williams -- they separated in September, 2007. He plays the Joker in the upcoming Batman film, "The Dark Knight."

The NY Times is reporting a masseuse arrived at his apartment and was let in the door by a housekeeper, who then knocked on the door of Mr. Ledger's bedroom. When no one answered, the housekeeper and the masseuse opened the bedroom door and found Mr. Ledger unconscious. They attempted to wake him, and when they couldn't they called 911.

We're told when paramedics responded, the actor was in full cardiac arrest. They attempted to perform CPR on him, but were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Holy crap, this has totally wrecked my day. He was one of my favorite actors, it is so amazingly sad that he's dead. Part of me doesn't even believe it, or maybe just in denial. I've been a fan of his since the beginning.

Olsen connection to Heath's death is that he was renting their apartment while filming his latest film.

Nothing specific and everything in general. It's more of a commentary on society. We can collectively pay more attention to whether or not Britney is wearing panties than the fact 45,000 are dying a month in the Congo (and thousands more are maimed and sexually brutalized), that there is a widening crisis in Darfur, etc., etc., ad nauseam.

For example, in April 1994, when the death of a single individual (Kurt Cobain) was grabbing the headlines and the attention of this part of the world, a genocide that went largely ignored by the media and international community was beginning in Rwanda that would see 500,000 - 1,000,000 killed.

Heath Ledger did not die in an online car forum. Why don't you shut up and attend your english classes. Yeah, I know what you were trying to say, but maybe you should learn how to say it instead of telling some guy to shut up because he's putting things into context.

The comparison of world events to the death of an actor was brought up to basically say there are 'more important things to worry about' and concern us, and that it's pretty fucked when more people care about the accidental or intentional death a famous young millionaire actor than the mass killings and injustices against thousands of defenseless, oppressed, impoverished people (Burma, Congo, Darfure, etc.) around the world. I agree.

While this is the Entertainment section of a car forum with a dedicated section for Society/ Law/ Current Events/ Politics, I have no problem with someone making a comment about context.

When you clicked on the link to this thread, were you already planning on posting something totally non related? Okay cool, so next time your friend or family member passes away, I'll be the first to remind you about the millions of others suffering in the world and how you shouldn't dwell on just one person. People in this thread and around the world may not have known him personally, but it doesnt change the fact that he has probably touched a great deal of lives in some way. He was a friend to millions of people through his movies.

I always thought people who got upset over celebrity deaths were a little odd, but I am beginning to see how people who mourned Elvis so badly felt when he died. Although I didn't actually know Heath, (just what I had seen in movies and read in interviews) I totally loved that guy, if only for what him and his talent stood for. Most of his movies are amongst my favorites and are significant to me because they have often symbolized a period of time in my life. I remember dancing around while watching 10 things I hate about you in junior high, movies like the patriot helped drive my insatiable love of history, lords of dogtown was one that taught me not to so quickly judge a group of people and a somewhat 'taboo' group of activites as harshly as I might have before. Brokeback, well it goes without saying that the entire production has greatly helped a lot of people understand the gay culture and the real emotions connected to that. There are more, but that would take all day.

If he wasn't so great at what he did, none of this would have had the impact on me (and others) that it did. He was a great man, why can't people just see that and mourn him like a person who accomplished something important with his life and meant something to a lot of people instead of dumbing it down like it's not important or stabbing out in hatred and jealousy?

All of you who say "he deserved it" or "this is no surprise" are horrible. You mean to tell me that if someone you cared about had a drug problem or committed suicide (I am by no means saying that I believe he had any kind of problem, truth be told anything said about that has come as a total shock to me, and I truly do not believe that he killed himself) but if someone you knew personally and cared about died from a drug overdose or something of the same nature, you mean to tell me you'd shrug it off and say they deserved it? You seriously wouldn't remember them for the good person they were and all the wonderful things they accomplished? Holy crap! Some very cynical and cold hearted people out there!

Sad day for me, I think I'm still in denial
