Toshiba HD-DVD Player (A3) is now $148.99 at Futureshop.

It's $99 if you buy a 37" tv or bigger.

Is it worth it to buy it, knowing that HD-DVD is most likely done? I'm assuming that even if it is doomed, it'll still take a couple years? And this unit can still be used as an upconverting player.

If need a dvd player for another tv in your house and something that upconverts than its not a bad deal at all. In the meantime you can take advantage of the situation and rent some HDDVD's in the rental stores.

Is it worth getting an HDDVD player now? Seems like Blu-ray is winning the war

Get a cheap HD DVD like this one and a PS3.

You'll have HD DVD, Blu Ray and a game console.

Definately worth it. They make a great up-converting DVD player and you get 2 free HD DVDs in the box. If you jump on it quickly, there is a mail in promotion for 5 free HD DVD movies as well.

So is it 7 HD DVD's altogether or just 5 in total?

I just bought a new tv so having an extra upconvert dvd player isn't bad. I've been holding out on purchasing one or the other (hd-dvd/bd) because i wanted to see who would win. But in all honesty, i rarely purchase movies anymore. My upconverting dvd has barely been used so this would probably be more of an impulse purchase.

I have a Shaw PVR so i record older movies or order on-demand. Maybe i'll hold on this, but it's a good deal for anybody looking for a good deal on hd-dvd.

7 total... bourne, 300, plus 5 others via mail in that costs $10.

I'm very happy with my HD DVDs, though I also have a PS3 for Blu-ray.. so I'm not too concerned about the format war.

How long does it take to receive the mail in ones? I hear the Blu-Ray ones take months.

Hm..$100 is a good deal! If this was a month ago I'd be all over it. Now I'm not so sure...might be investing $100 into the next betamax

I think at that price might as well. As mentioned before I went the route of having an HD-DVD player and PS3 for BR as well so you're pretty much covered no matter what happens. I bought an A30 for $230 last year, so I an A3 for $150 isn't horrible, Best Buy has A30's for $200 so I would probably each the extra $50 for 1080p.
