If you ever want to drive in California ever again, pay it...

how did it go from 350 to 800????

...collection agencies buy unpaid debt from companies etc. and then use harassment and other tactics to nag you so into paying them. you are already boned if you go back to CA so ignore them .

if you care about your record in california, try and take it up with the department that the ticket said to contact. if you dont, throw it out.

dont give the collection agency a dime though.

QFT.

Do some research it'll answer all your questions. I tried to get of mine too, $350.00USD.

But tirebob pretty much sumed it up.

They've got a Canadian agency after you now. They have the capability to really muck up your credit rating. Now's the time to be trying to settle this thing, or when you go try and buy a house or lease a car, they're going to hit you hard with interest or deny it outright.

Knowing someone in the bank buisness and having a perfect credit score does not help you get around a collection. Once you go to collections it makes it very very hard to get any credit product for the next 6 years. The moment you go to collections and it is your fault say bye bye to your credit that you worked so hard for

work out a deal, tell them you ll pay the price of the original ticket, seems fair:dunno:

They really cannot do anything too crazy. In order to take it to court it has to be a decent amount (5k+ at least) and 2. they need proof of you owing the money. Without that they really cannot do anything but pull up yout credit file and view your employer and harass you. They cannot give you bad credit as you did not take out a loan and many times they don't even know who they are dealing with.

if you ever want to approve in the future for a credit card, loan, mortgage, line of credit you cannot have any collections owing

I would pay it and ask them to provide you a letter saying it was paid. Your credit is already "mucked up" now, time to work on damage control

^for a ticket, not likely.

go to equifax.ca and see if it shows up in your credit report. im betting not, and its just scare tactics.

I got a few tickets 2 years ago when i was leaving Phoenix and driving back.

Crossing yellow line, 105mph in a 75mph zone, and no insurance as i packed it into my suitcase and could not find it...

Never paid any of them, never been contacted by anyone....

That sucks to hear. keep us informed on what happens.
