My wife is looking for a smaller, lighter laptop that she can carry around easier than her 15" Dell that's proving to be a bit too heavy for her to lug around. If anybody has a good, clean, light laptop that they're not using, let me know. Nothing too old or beat up please. Preferably 12 or 13" widescreen with dvd burner.

I just replaced my Inspiron 1501 with a Dell Vostro 1400. It's around 5.5 lbs, comes with a 14.1" screen, is much lighter and comes with a 9cell battery for around $600.

Unfortunately, I think that one would be too close to what she has now. Lighter, but not much smaller, you know? I'll mention it to her though.

Thanks.

crx/gsr...PM'd back.

i have vgn-tx-850p slightly used

its a SONY VAIO, doesnt compare to acer , this one will last you a really long time and battery life on vaio is better then any other company (many non sony computes use sony batteries but still drain them quick)

includes standard battery (will last about 6 hours literely)

includes 2 double capacity batteries (about 10 hours each)

includes VAIO camera
TELUS EVDO Card

Logitech Bluetooth mouse
Sony mp3 player (works great with the computer)

Recovery DVDS (vaios dont usually come with recovery dvds just a recovery partition, i ordered these from sony as back up)

Purchased from best buy last year. 2500, plus 500 for the add-ons. (that was sale price)

Asking only $1500

That's what I thought too until i got it. I was looking for a 12.1", but they were too expensive. Dell offers free returns with no restocking on business notebooks, so you have nothing to lose if you decide to check it out.

Another great deal, but not sure about Everex (and combined with TigerDirect makes it worse):

Recap:

Everex 12.1"/T2080/1GB/100GB/DVD-RW/Vista Premium

$599 + shipping

That everex computer looks cute but the company makes bottom-of-the barrel laptops...same with Acer.

I hadn't heard that about Acer. I wouldn't buy a no-name lappy like Everex without doing some research on them, but I thought Acer wasn't a bad name. Anybody else with any concerns about them? At least with Costco you can always return it if it sucks.

I'm also looking for a sub-compact 12.1' laptop.

I was going to just get the Vostro 1400 as the price was nice and live with the bigger screen.....but I was reading a notebook forum and Dell has released a Vostro 1200 (12' screen)in the Asian markets and it's probably going to come to Canada eventually.

Here is a link to the Dell Australian website:
