from benzinsider...

The last few years have seen a flood of 500 horsepower sedans almost pouring out of Germany from BMW, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz. Earlier this month, however, representatives from Mercedes and AMG announced that the "horsepower wars" were over, saying that outright power would no longer be the "main focus" for future sports sedans.

Apparently, no-one sent that "war over" memo to RENNTECH.

This morning, RENNTECH announced a new stage 3 tune for the 2008 65 series AMG models, which makes use of what RENNTECH calls next-generation ECU software to get 695 hp and 890 lb-ft of torque from the AMG's twin-turbo V12.

mmmm that 65 motor is the shit! :bigpimp:

I dunno if that power is really necessary tho, traction control doesn't turn off until 160. That means there's no traction until you're going at a speed where you'll lose your license instantly haha. Kinda excessive.

Just because I said it was excessive doesn't mean I don't want it.

Nope, 63 is a different motor, it is naturally aspirated, not turbo.

The 65 motor with stage 2 is more than excessive enough. It is trivial to produce wheel spin, even when traveling near idle at 50 km/h and firmly pushing the gas (maybe half throttle). I can't imagine any real benefit to the third stage, but of course I'd be happy to test it.

God I miss RWD.

Why? What are you driving now? Please don't tell me it's a new maybach minivan with FWD!!!!

haha I think stage 1 is crazy enough already with 670hp/840tq. Stage 2 and 3 is purely bragging rights, another 25hp and 50tq for another $25k or something. You can't use that extra power until you're cruising at 180 or 200 haha.

I did get a minivan, but it at least has AWD.
