generally how many clicks before these cars die? I'm planning to buy one that has 185xxx clicks on it. The seller claims its in good condition since its passed the OOP inspection and so far by pics everything seems clean no rust n all.. so would it be worth buying? Just based on that tho.. don't tell me its slow cuz i know it is :P

Even if you're talking miles, SL's can last a lot more than that if cared for. 250k miles is common. However, make absolute certain the 60k service was done again at 180k. If not, take that into consideration for the price. Its a pretty big ticket item at the dealership. $1100ish

Also, if he didn't replace the oil pump at 120k (many people don't, even though it is part of the service) then I'd be weary of that, though the oil pumps are usually okay.

I know of cars that have died at 50,000km and other cars that are at 500,000km and still running strong. All depends on how it was taken care of. This is what vehicle inspections are for.

Make sure to get the compression tested when you inspect it (and you should inspect it) to see what kind of shape the motor is in.

I used to have one (If the one your looking at is green, has a borla exhaust and a 1995, it might have been mine haha). I sold it with around 130,000km several years ago and the service history on it was pretty well just scheduled maitenence and oil changes. The N/A cars are much more reliable than the turbo versions (no turbos, no intercoolers, no AWD, no all wheel steering, etc. etc.). The 5-speed versions of the SL are *WAY* faster than the automatic versions. The sport suspension button works pretty well, it's definitely noticable.

Those cars have crazy wheel gap and 16" wheels and look MUCH better with a tasteful lowering job and 18" wheels IMO.

It has to be an american car, so is that 180,000 KM or Miles?

I was very happy with it for a first car. It was more than adequate in the winter as well. My biggest complaints were wheel gap and FWD.

I wouldn't buy it at that price, especially with those KMs, if its in absolutely mint condition offer him somewhere from 6-7k, otherwise forget about.
