What should I do? I bought it last year

I didnt abuse it, never over charged it.

I was wondering why it wouldnt hold a charge properly. I charged it as it says in the owners manual. I disconnected the positive for safety.

Even though its out of warranty shouldnt they alteast exchange it due the safety problem?

I just took off the cover, to test the battery incase I needed a new one.

^ Yeah, dismantling it probably voided the warranty. I think you wouldn't have a problem with an exchange, unless you froze it solid at some point.

No I took off the cover to access the battery, the battery already pushed the cover out

Why would the manager thank you? Also, why would I want them to be fatter than OEM?

That battery was frozen at some point while discharged. You're lucky they took it on exchange.

I wonder if it ever froze before you got it? Maybe in transit from the manufacturer to the store, before the store sold it?

You see batteries like this all the time, from RVs and trailers when they're allowed to freeze over the winter.

Not good for the battery, but it wouldn't blow up.

I had an elimator battery in my jeep it did the same thing. It didn't freeze at all. I bought it in april and by the middle of june I looked under the hood to check some thing and my battery looked like a football... they tried telling me it was my alternator so they tested it and it was good so they gave me a new battery.

As explained before, when your battery is discharged and outside, it will freeze and expand, and when that happens its FUCKED. If you Try charging it after, it sulfates and it will smell like rotten eggs, and very possible chance it could potentially explode. Just don't have a cigarette in the vicinity at the same time haha.

Why does Canadian tire take them back? they are to stupid to know any better, i take back shit there all the time, some of which i didn't even purchase from there.

you sure? my best friend works at a used car lot. i asked him about this since some cars sit for months on the lot. he said batteries are all fine. except he did have problems with elminator batteries IN THE SUMMER. isnt ironic?

Yes batteries can explode if frozen. We have a large battery booster cart for our tractor trailers at work that has 4 large batteries in it, it was discharged completely one day and somebody left it out in the cold, somebody else unknowingly tried to boost a truck with it only to have 2 batteries explode and blow the steel lid off the thing. Very dangerous shit.
