The interesting thing is, 20 yrs later, most people don't care. And students now care more about gold farming with MMOs.

You don't mean to imply that we're all old.
You mean to imply that you're uneducated.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/d8/Tianasquare.jpg I agree, I watched this last night when it was posted. I have a whole new respect for the Chinese CITIZENS. If you watch the whole video, they were battling the army pretty hard.. completely unarmed!.

Take a history class? We dedicated a whole freaking semester in high school history to China over the last century. At the very least, you'd hear about it in your Cold War stuff.

Yes. But the students are pawns in a political power struggle in the name of democracy.

If they succeeded, China would plunge into dark times much like the Yeltsin years in Russia. With uncontrollable inflation and people asking for communism again.

I think China is on the right course. Let's get capitalism running first. Once all citizens are feed and more educated, then try some democracy.

17? Maybe I missed something, but have the age restrictions changed? Last I checked beyond was 18+ only.

I don't think they are going to try some democracy... China is an Authoritarian state. You don't exactly have free speech or the option to even mount an opposition to the current goverment. Lastly rampant corruption and the power held by the leaders makes me seriously doubt that they will ever feel the need to have elections.

Either way in the name of freedom, a lot of people faced death. Any time a government uses blatant force like that on their people, I get a little irritated.

It was a scary night for the people.

They will in a limited and small doses and in time.

Democracy doesn't get rid of corruption, it's actually more corrupted by inviting other influent participants (lobbyists) in the process.

Authoritarian may actually can deal with corruption better. As long as you have the right people on top.
