Just out of curiosity, what happens if you are in an accident and you have aftermarket seats? will your insurance provider refuse coverage?? do the seats have to be certified in any way???:dunno:

Assuming you didn't go flying out the windshield attached to your seat, I'd think it wouldn't matter.

the seats have to be dot legal, and sadly, they probably arn't. most seats that i can think of are not legal, though they may be safer, its still not legal. how this will affect your insurance, i dont know.

Yup the seats have to be dot legal, as well as certified for use in Canada.
You must use the correct mounting hardware and not hack job them in. The seats must use the original holes from the stock seats and be mounted in the same fashion.
Plus, most seat belts are calibrated for use with a stock seat. By changing your seat, you might be asking for trouble with the stock seat belt.
And aftermarket seatbelt assemblies are RARELY legal in Canada.
