Most likely in the form of a sedan version.....does the US (and North American market in general) hate hatchbacks that much? I think that's a real nice looking car.

90ps diesel. Finally an option over the Jetta.

WOW! The Fiesta is back!!! havent seen these in ages

Damn, the Fiesta has REALLY evolved from the one we used to get here.

Looks really good for a Ford compact. I'd be impressed if that is the production interior.

You guys are jaded if you think it'll look that good when it comes over here or if there will be a diesel option.

Looks like a Citroen.

There was a sedan version at the detroit auto show. I think it looks great as a hatch or sedan. Definitely better looking than what we currently have in that category (fit, versa, yaris...). :barf:

The only problem is Ford needs to have this and the new Euro Focus (so much better than what we have) for sale in NA right now. It would help them out immensly.

It will probably look like an aveo once it gets here...

Bring the Festiva and those stupid commercials back too :D

Seriously though this is a good move for Ford but again it's very late in the game.

It's Ford. They'll find a way to make it look like the new Focus.

This is the Ford Verve it seems like.

Same engine options too

^ Verve was the concept, Fiesta is the production name worldwide.

There is a bit of the Euro-only Ford Puma in that. Nice looking for an entry level Ford. It is too bad though that it will be a sedan when it gets here; the hatchback is handy and looks good.

not bad

The states is going to have to get to love hatch backs again pretty quickly when this recession hits them hard..

yep. Picture it jacked up 3" with 12" steelies and an interior that looks like it came out of your washing machine

worldwide, Ford has really released some very nice looking cars.

Too bad their North American models are so screwed up that they have to resort to blaming import brands for their financial problems. You'd think they'd at least try experimenting with European designs b4 laying off workers or something.

and i can picture the NA version with 12'' steelies and an interior covered with plastic so brittle it breaks on touch. sigh, what a shame.

here is the sedan which is the version that N/A will be getting hopefully.

the car will be the same in North America as in Europe... there will be different options available... and only the 4 door version will be available...

another interesting article... i love reading the domestic bashing in the comments.

Have you heard the one about the guy who went up the dealer and said…”I think I’ll have a Fit.” The dealer says…”Calm down. Maybe you would be happier if we partied at the Fiesta next door.”

haha

US hates hatchbacks, Canadians like them but the US usually dictates what we get. With gas prices the way they are though we may see a return of the micro-cars in North America.

Fiesta looks good. Maybe we will get a hot version like the old Fiesta ST.

And as bad as the current NA Focus is, I see alot of them around. So it must be an ok seller for Ford.

This and they the Euro Focus and Ford would be doing a million times better. I really like the look of the Fiesta. I hope it is as nice in person and drives good as well.

Im surprised this is going to the US first and not Canada, that's an odd decision for Ford.. front bumper issues perhaps?

an almost production version caught in the US... they managed to keep the car relatively un-molested in the transfer over here...

from what the writer says, the interior fit and finish, as well as material quality is top notch.

Looks a whole lot better than the Fit, Versa, or Yaris. But the dash is ugly.

If reliability, ride quality and engine are half as good as it looks it should be a hit. Based on looks I would drive it before anything else currently in its class. Maybe Ford is finally smartening up?

BerserkerCatSplat

Isn't that pretty much how the American car companies always works? Completely reactive. They don't seem to have any forsight. "Let's keep throwing shit at our customers until they don't feel like getting shit thrown at them. Then we'll try something different after we start bleeding billions a day."

Now the question is, how badly can this car undercut both the Yaris and Fit in terms of pricing? Will Ford actually realize they can't sell their car for as much money, or will they set a high MSRP because they're greedy and figure they need to milk this car due to possibly high demand? If this thing can be priced like an Accent on sale (i.e. $10k) they'll sell like hotcakes. But unlikely.

I totally agree with this. I think if the Fit and Yaris are selling for 14k and the Accent is 10k, Ford really needs to price this at 12k. Not 15k with a 2k rebate like they do so often now. Because too many people just go online and just see the msrp. It needs to be lower.

Ford doesn't have the reputation anymore to sell for the same price as Honda or Toyota even if they can build just as good of a car. Then need to have some really competitive pricing and really good products for a few years and hopefully then they have a reputation where they can bump up the price to a more profitable point and sales won't suffer.

If that thing is priced right I could see it doing quite well for Ford.

You can see the seats are cloth and they've gone back to the plastic dash instead of leather. figures...

Top notch for an inexpensive city car, yes. Did you expect a full leather interior on a base ~$15,000 hatchback? The leather interior will probably be an option package not included on the test vehicle. :dunno:
