The second picture of the 2004 SLK (front view) is a photochop. It used to be a picture of the new SL. Hopefully the real 2004 SLK won't have that ugly nose.

There's a more recent '05 SLK picture (car will be first shown at the Geneva auto show in 04). It's got the hardtop in the prototype car instead of the softtop. I'll try to dig it up.

I've only seen that nasty "7 series ass" in that one spy shot. Let's hope it doesn't come out that way...

The retail price will be competitive with the price of a 911 Carrera GT. So probably about $315 000 USD. When the car show was in Calgary I talked to one of the salesman about the GT and the Cayenne. He bullshited a lot stuff. He claims/lies that there are already orders in Calgary on the GT.

Kenny and I both had our money down on a SLK 32 AMG (thought to be an SLK 55 AMG with the V8) long before it was released. The SL 55 waiting list started 2 years ago, long before even the SL 500 was released.

Yeah, it was an SL I'll try to dig up the original... what he/she did was basically took some spy photos and incorporated it into the picture of the SL so it looked more realistic. Chances are, the photochop will actually be an accurate representation of what the car will look like, but its still a photochop (pretty good one).

No man, that is the actual concept SLR. There is like a million pictures of it out there. I've known about it since about late 1999. The SL would actually just be ideas taken from SLR. I can give you sites where there are way more pics if you like.

How do you know all purchasers are Calgarians? It is quite possible that purchasers are not from Calgary. Also there are quite a few car wholesellers in town who could have orders placed on them too.

I don't exactly know how the new SLK will look like but my mind is made up on trading my car in late 2004 for the 2005 model SLK. I'm paranoid that when the new one comes out, it will make the old one seem oudated and ugly...kinda like the new and old SL.
I just wonder how long I have to preorder or go on the waiting list for. I haven't decided which model I want but since everyone is following Kenny on the AMG bandwagon like Rage2, Mischief, Fat Dave....I'm feeling left out!!

You should put $1K down on it now. If you change your mind when the new car comes out, you can always get your $ back. Highly doubt it'll come with the 4matic. I know the car's fast, that's why I want it. It's faster than the SL55, that's why the production SL55's are now bumped to 500hp. Price shouldn't be too bad, MB's always been really good at keeping the same price for new models. The last E55 came in at $101,600, so you're getting a lot of car for that money (the 479hp one).

I would disagree chum. The reason that I prefer BMW is because they produce sports cars rather than cruisers. For instance, BMW always has at least an optional Manual transimission, while Mercedes only offers automatic. Which to me says that they are aiming at a much older crowd.

By the way, Mercedes doesn't own BMW, in fact, Mercedes is owned by Daimler Chrysler. So technically CHRYSLER OWNS MERCEDES.

New M5 (2 years behind new E55) will be powered by a 500hp V10.

I've heard that it might just be a 5.5 litre 500bhp V8, which in my opinion would be way better then a V10, which would make the car way too heavy and cause weight distribution problems. I cant see why BMW wouldnt go with a V8 either, its not like they couldnt get 500bhp out of one.

Ya, just like what Cwave said above, plus it *might* be forced induction as well, but i only heard that from one source and i cant remember where that was. BMW makes good N/A engines anyway though, if you read any Enzo Ferrari articles the author usually does a quick comparison to the McLaren F1, and so far the general feeling is
'ya, Ferrari gave the enzo a great engine, and I really enjoy it, but is it better then the BMW V12? I dont think either one is better.'

and that engine was 10 or so years ago. So saying the only way to get that much horsepower out of a V8 with 5.5 litres of displacement is probably a bit on the ignorant side of things. I guess we'll all have to wait and see though.

I Recently came upon pics of the new E-60 5 series. While the new aim of the 5 series is to be sportier and more agressive, the visual doesn't say that at all. It is such a travesty that I'm too disgusted to post any pictures.

Instead of firing the guy that designed the new 7 series, they decided to make ALL the new designs with similar looks to that car...!!!!
