If you want to know who the Stig is, it's clearly written in Richard Hammond's crash report.

I "think" it's #37.

EDIT: After further review I'm less sure it's #37. I'll continue to read on.

It's #37. It explains how this person is a regular driver and consultant for the show.

I assumed that they used a different stig depending on the car and situation. For example if they were tracking an enzo Ferrari would send over one of their drivers and dress him as the Stig although the Stig always seems to have the same driving style.

There are different Stigs for special occasions that doesn't work for the normal Stig. But in most cases, the Stig is one person.

Hmm... It sounds likely that it is 37, but not definitive. The report makes it sound like he serves as a technical and driving adviser for the show.

Well now I'm reading that there's #37, the main Stig, but companies can send in their own if they want. Apparently there's proof of Renault and Ferrari using their test drivers when their F1 cars were on the show.

I dunno. I'm just glad I finally know who this guy is.

For those that don't believe it, the current Stig did an interview which is on youtube. Take a peek at that. Next, look up the person in #37, he also has youtube interviews. That should end all speculation.
