Wow, that car is SEXY. For some reason I thought your MR2 was a beater, not a rolling sex-machine on super sexy rims.

+ 1 awesome point for that car.

Ok so here is the story with the the exhaust without trying to thread hijack. The car i was originally going to buy had a Fujitsubo Legalis R on it, import concern screwed up so i bought this car. the exhaust was already on it, had no idea what kind it was. Went to the wednesday night meets and two people told me it was a Fujitsubo exhaust to which i said that there is no way it is a Fujitsubo Legalis R but one guy said that Fujitsubo in fact made two exhausts for the mr2 and this was that other one. So I went with that for a while. however now i think it could be a berk exhaust but i am not totally sure. what i do know is mine is discoloring like a whore like what alot of people with berk exhausts are having problems with.

Not saying its a piece of shit cuz I love my bady, even though she stole all my money and now I don't have a reliable vehicle, but just saying compared to some of these more completed cars she looks like a piece of shit. haha, if our first meet is at the track I'll be there :D :burnout:

Not dynoed yet. The stroker that was supposed to be here before the new year, is shipping out this week, and then i'm going to be looking for a shop (and spending more money that I don't have) or installing it myself on one of these lovely weekends. It will be all ready by the start of april, so I can go spin out on some gravel lol.

I just want my car to be something. If it can't be the sexiest, then I plan on claiming the fastest title. haha I will sabotage the competition to ensure my title :) :)

took me 3 hours.. sucks because the exhaust manifold and dp nuts are always on sooo tight..
tricky to get to the coolant feed line as well.

minus stripped bolts and jacking up the car etc.. doing it yourself on a stock turbo car i would say 2-4hours depending on tools and your experience

Is it easier to remove the exhaust manifold and remove the turbo from above or to leave the exhaust manifold and drop the turbo? I've done turbo swaps before but they were on DSM's.

Redlyne_mr2
02-27-2008, 09:55 AM
because the turbo is mounted from below its tough to remove the nuts, remove the dp first for sure, and then decide your plan of action from there. I just found it alot easier to remove the manifold because of the limited space.

Yeah that's probably what I'll do. I just hate removing old manifolds as it seems there's always a couple of studs that don't co-operate.

One question for the people who have rhd mr2s.

I was thinking of getting an mr2 or a civic but what everyone is telling is that it's really hard to get parts for any japan import car. Is it really that hard to find the parts? increased prices? long waits? Should I just stick to lhd?

rotary8
02-27-2008, 12:05 PM
^^^ thats a complete lie.....i dunno abut civics.. but mr2 is probably one of the "friendliest" and biggest communities ive seen today... mr2oc.com is just ONE of the forums that part swap & gp like crazy .. canadian/ontario mr2 club....even beyonds mr2 club...mr2.co.uk club....it is NOT hard to find parts for the mr2 at all...i could imagine the civic being the same

good luck with the choice

Heavy D take the turbo off with the exhaust manifold and pull it out the top. Like ryan said you'll need to take the dp off first.

mrjay1987 There is no difference in parts from a lhd and rhd. but yes there is going to be increased wait times as most mr2 parts are not "stocked" here in Canada and usually need to be imported from the states or further. There will also be an increase in price, true there are a lot of groupbuys and the used marketplace is a great source, but you have to remember these cars are pushing 20 years old, so some things are harder to come by

mr2mike
02-27-2008, 04:52 PM
Depends what parts you're after. Stock engine parts are easy to get anywhere here for the Gen II engines. Gen III not too sure since I don't known one.

Bodykits and all that aftermarket stuff usually comes from the US.

Civic or MR2?!? Night and Day.

Take the exhaust manifold off with the turbo. Way easier. Then you can replace the exhaust manifold gasket and check to make sure your manifold isn't warped. This is common on gen II's.

I can't totally remember how I dropped my turbo with the stock dp but I believe I tried to keep the DP on but I think I had my engine out.
I just undid the bolts that mounted it to the block. Then I took off the oil feed line at the block and the oil return line at the oil pan. Get someone to help you drop it because its gonna be heavy with the stock dp and cat. But hopefully someone can say for sure if the stock dp can stay on and have enough clearance to drop with the manifold on.

The whole conversion and paint job only cost 3/4 the price of a real ferrari.

Um, correct me if I am wrong but I am 99% sure that's a real F430. One give away is usually the interior. From the looks of it, it looks like a real F430 interior, but hard to tell. But on the 1% chance I am wrong, then that's a really good conversion. There is another post here on Beyond with an obvious conversion.

Here's my car.

One more question.

I've been debating whether getting a rhd or a lhd mr2. Are there any differences between both models, or is it just which side the steering wheel is on?

RHD has a more aggressive ECU i think it makes 220hp and the usdm makes 200hp the turbos are also different jdm is ceramic and usdm is steel i believe... i personally would rather a lhd car for convenience of driving it in north america but the price difference is quite large between a usdm and JDM...
