Hey guys, it is almost camping time again, and i am looking to find a new spot to take the family to. Since we all know people book these places early, figgured i would start now.

was hoping to find some recomendations from you guys on a good camping spot.

Looking for something that is basically right next to some good fishing and water, as many trees as possible, clean grounds, and only about a 3 hour drive from calgary. If it is in the mountains somewhere, all the better.

let the ideas fly.

thanks in advance!

Well east of Calgary, Parkland on hwy 24 near Carsland. I noticed a campsite near the river after I ran over a deer carcass. Seems like a sweet spot in a valley.

Blue Rock camp ground. Its directly west of Turner valley. Huge lots, awesome views, right beside the river. I absolutely love it there.. (and lord knows how many kegs!!! haha)
:clap:

but its a 30min drive from turney valley, it takes you right into Kananaskis country. Amazing drive though, beautiful views along the way... actually it pretty much takes you into the mountains would you believe. :)

I always liked minnewanka loop campsites.. I think there's 2 campsites that I know off, just forgot their names. Right by the water as well. Enjoy.

redstreak... you can walk to the hotsprings from it. very nice.

Canyon in Kananaskis is also a nice place, the tent loops anyways.

Boulton Creek is OK

IIRC most kananaskis campgrounds are on a 'first come' basis, no reservations.

I like Lillian lake, never fished there, but I've seen others doing it.

Though it is a 3 hours hike into the campground. Not for those who think driving into the spot is "camping"

I agree with you on that one, but with small kids, i can't expect them to walk in that far, with all the gear on my wife's and my backs.

Point campground on the Upper Kananaskis Lake seems like the place to go (I don't know if you've been there). Short easy hike, amazing scenery and some good trails for day hikes if you're up for it. Its where I take any visiting relatives who come over for a couple nights, they just eat it up.
