Anyone used an automotive stud remover?

Stripped an exhaust manifold stud. Nut started threading off and then stopped and would turn but no longer back out. Ended up cutting the nut in half without damaging the stud further.

Someone suggested vice grips
or putting two nuts on the stud and then backing it out (not sure if there is enough thread to do this!)

so looking for recommendations

Careful if you try drilling it. Also I would go to Auto Value or another store along these lines and ask if they have a tool you could rent or buy for the task. I find they can be helpful but sometimes you got to call BULLSHIT with those guys, try and speak with a manager
