Does anybody here have a really good pain killer I can have or even buy off you to get rid of my tooth pain for just one more night. I have it pulled tomorrow afternoon but it's kicking my ass right now. I had a perceset the other night and it worked wonders.

Head over to Shoppers, if you ask them for tylenol with codeine its pretty strong stuff actually. Immunity builds fast, but if you just need it for one night, should do the trick.

Tylenol 3 isn't the greatest painkiller for dental pain. Ideally you would get a prescription for Toradol, but for now, try popping 2 Advils and 2 Tylenol extra strengths together.

As odd as it sounds, try the Uber strength motrin. It is a very over the counter drug that is often taken by women at the monthly homeboy time, but it was suggested to me to cope with a root canal and it did wonders. Took it again when I had my wisdom teeth out and again, the pain went away easily. I prefered it even over all the rest of the hard prescription stuff I was given. Just ask the pharmasist for the strongest motrin they have, they should be able to help you out.

Good luck! Tooth pain sucks so amazingly bad. My grandfather (who is my dentist) told me that tooth pain is one of the only things capable of bringing the strongest man to his knees. :(

Smoking too much crack give you a toochache but it also alleviates the pain when you have one. Might want to try that? Save you some money on groceries too.

Just take whatever of the two happens to be in your cabinet, and combine it with some Tylenol.

I feel for ya man, I've had a long history of dental problems, and know what you're going thru where only percacet works. Honestly, the only suggestion I have is to smoke some weed. That's how I managed to go thru a whole weekend before seeing a dentist. The bonus is you can (and want to) eat after smoking. On percacet, I wanted to puke non stop and it sucked.

Good luck.

Just take an antiinflammatory drug, tooth aches are caused by pressure on nerves caused by inflamation/infection.

Chew on some ice.

The pain goes away pretty quick after the tooth is pulled, as the inflammed area goes back to normal within a few hours. You might have a bit of soreness, but it drops back down to managable pain very quickly after extraction.

Kinda curious why you're pulling the tooth and not getting a root canal and fixing it up?

I made the mistake of pulling 3 molars 15 yrs ago when they were hurtin' like a bitch. It makes chewing food a little different haha. If I had to do it again, I would've fixed it up properly (root canal + crown).

If you think you were in a lot of pain, I had 7 root canals done in 1 day. That was obscene haha.

I am getting one root canal this week, another one next week, all 4 wisdoms pulled on the 27th (bottom ones grew in sideways)

I am a little bit worried!!! Especially for the wisdom pulls!!

They tell me they will be giving me Ativan before the wisdom pulls. Not sure what that will do other than anxiety relief. Rather be put out but that is not an option right now.

BOT- I have about 5 or 6 blue pills (no viagra jokes needed) from when I landed on my head mountain biking. The doctor was ASIAN (no racial comments needed)

He told me. You see they are in the shape of a house, that means you stay home when you take them!

I imagine you will be taken care of by the time I get to them.

Get it all done at once, Arbour Lake Dental, go under. You take a few pills and next thing you know everything's done and you're at home in bed. It takes only a day to recover from that lol. Realistically, just one night's worth of pain. Eating real foods in 24 hours!

I'm not sure what dentist you guys are going to but I have had many root canals myself, (reason was fractured teeth over the years) and not one of my root canal procedures was painful, not even the slightest.

You might want to see a new dentist.

In fact whenever I am at the dentist my procedures are for the most part rather comfortable.

I use Dr. Kim Orth, located downtown.

He has all the wizzy equipment for making crowns right in his office, so when you go in for a root canal he can crown you at the same time.

Another guy I have used for root canal surgery is Dr. Kim Fuhrman, I've actually fallen asleep during his procedures.

A fractured root canal job is a LOT different than an infected root canal job .

If you're already in pain because it's infected, it's fucking killer when the "root" gets scraped out!

Kona9

I have a tooth that broke almost in half. (top molar) It was the only filling I had as a kid. Even though the filling is exposed there is ZERO pain at all. ever. That is one root canal.

I am not really worried about the root canals themselves as I have been told they would be pretty easy and quick.

It's the sideways bottom wisdoms that concern me.

I will be asking a few more questions regarding the wisdom procedures. I would prefer to be put out, but the cost is more extensive with sedation.

The shitty thing is, is I have no coverage. No insurance etc. This is all going to be a few-5 grand!!!!!!!!

A fractured root can get infected as well. I had one that went absess, but the actual root canal procedure didn't hurt at all.

Oh man I hate to scare you, but Ativan is weak! I took it everyday for a year so I'm pretty familiar with it. It will help calm any panic feelings you have, but it's not going to remotely make the procedure more pleasant. I was knocked out when I had mine taken out and it was definitely the right choice. Watch nurse inject chemical in your arm - suddenly hear voices but dont really understand them - finally open your eyes, and it's time to go home. Haha.

Rage - the reason I had it pulled is because half the tooth broke off and little pieces of it chipped here and there. There was no tooth left to put a crown on.

The tooth is pulled now. The dentist used so much force to pull it out. I thought he was going to rip my jaw off.

On the light side, the entire left side of my face is frozen :D

I have already phoned a few questions into Arbour Lake as per Rages advice. Now I will phone my dentist and ask for their suggestions as to who I should go to in order to be put out. Regardless, I will be getting put out.

Apparently, you're responsive when you're "out", you just don't remember a damn thing. You'll need someone to take you home, MAKE SURE they take pics and vids of it, because by the time you're awake and alert (about 12-18 hrs after taking the pills), it's fun to look thru those pics and vids and have absolutely no recollection of anything haha.

For the person that said root canals shouldn't hurt... it varies on the person. Everyone can be frozen, but it depends on the person how hard this is to accomplish. Things like trauma and infection, bone structure and nerve placement and coverings can all affect how successful the freezing is, as well as the dentist and how good they are at it.

Last time I was crying having a temporary filling removed it hurt that bad. Damn teeth, I don't know why we can't grow a third set at about 25 when you realize how important it is to take care of them properly...

Then I found out about Arbour Lake, and I'm never going anywhere again. Like I said, 7 root canals + crowns, a bridge, and several fillings in 1 day. Took 1 day to recover. Didn't feel a thing. I actually enjoy going to the dentist now and won't go anywhere else again. Maybe that's why my old dentist refused to recommend them....

Everyone else I've recommended there say the same thing. I have yet to hear a bad review for Arbour Lake.

Maybe your dentist doesn't know how to apply the freezing properly, I suggest you find a new dentist.

As for Rage being afraid of needles, its just a tiny little prick, you can barely feel it.

Plus being put under can be risky in itself.

You've had a filling done with no freezing? It WILL bring tears to your eyes, the only saving grace was that the freezing did numb my gums(not the nerve to the tooth though) so I didn't feel the 8+ needles I had-I am guessing a dozen in total. The new dentist suggestion is something I am looking into, however I need someone who specializes in hard to freeze patients. I guess there are different techniques to freezing and not all dental schools teach them all. Either that or sleep dentistry is my other option.

Rage-I think people have a bad peception of sleep dentistry due to that last case that was on the news of that dentist molesting his patients while they were out of it/drugged. It wasn't Arbour Lake but was a sleep dentist. My dentist didn't say anything bad about them.

It is not like she had bad things to say. It was more like she said they are sedative to a point. Where the dentist she referred me to as a specialist, actually puts me under completely.

Here is my deal. Last September my room mate called an ambulance for me as it seemed I was going through a heart attack with severe chest pains that turned into tingling fingers and arms. When the paramedics arrived and did the ECG on me, they felt it was best to take me into the hospital for an overnighter due to what the print out read. A 31 year old healthy male having a heart attack was quite odd. It turned out to be an anxiety attack and things have been fine since all the stress testing, thalium testing etc. I have a strong heart.

I stress easy enough and don't think I could handle all the work being done to me without being put under. I don't want to feel my head being jarred this way and that, and even see a tool going in my mouth. I am sorry but Ativan and an iPod won't do it for me.

bignerd is right... I've had fillings done where it was completely painless (caught early), and fillings done where it was near unbearable (went in painful). It just depends on how infected it is, if the infection's died down, etc.

It DOES depend on the person too. Some people just genetically have good teeth, and have no pain even when working on teeth. I guess I just got bad teeth genes haha.

I have a needle phobia of some sort. I can watch some sick shit, but I can't watch a needle going into anything, it's weird. A needle in my gums? Ain't gonna happen. Last time I had a needle in my gums (like 10 yrs ago), it took the dentist 40 mins to do it. He knew before that I had this problem so he actually booked double time to handle my appointment lol.

I've tried Nitrous Oxide too before a needle, but it does nothing to me. I guess there's a small % of the population where Nitrous has no effect... and I'm one of 'em.

So ya, there's not many options for me.

Well....I can't believe I was as nervous as I was to get that root canal and two fillings done.

When the assistant was telling me what to expect from the needle, she used the term "like a mosquito bite." Now I hate it when people exagerate, but in all honesty she was bang on.
I really did not even feel it.

Then the whole procedure of getting my tooth drilled out and all the roots pulled through and out. Again, didn't feel a thing. To be honest, the cleaning I got the week before hurt more, and it was painless.

So it looks as though when I go in next week to get another root canal, I will most likely be yanking the top wisdoms as well. So painless. That way going under in order to get the bottom wisdoms (grew in sideways) out at a sleep dentist specialist, it will be MUCH cheaper!

Some friends were telling me to be ready for some pain when the freezing comes out. A couple hours later it did, and to this minute I still have felt no pain. I have an obvious "bruising" sensation when I put any pressure on the root canalled tooth, but I am sure to expect that seeing as they pulled out the roots.

So for anyone that is curious about a good dentist, definitely stop and see Dr Honke (Honkay) in Sun Life Plaza on the corner of 1st St SW and 4 ave SW.
