The Audi R8 V12 TDI concept that made such a splash in Detroit has a fraternal twin, and it's headed to Geneva. Finished in Brilliant Red paint and dubbed the R8 TDI Le Mans -- the association with the fabled endurance race carries a lot more weight on the Continent -- the car arrives in Geneva with the same impressive spec sheet as its silver counterpart. A 5.5L V12 TDI is crammed in the space behind the R8's passenger compartment. It packs a bit of a punch, too -- 500 horsepower and enough torque (737 lb-ft) to alter the earth's rotation allow for a 0-62 mph time of just 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 186 mph. That's Euro 6-compliant power, too. Clean and mean -- emphasis on the mean.

While this R8 may not be production anytime soon, they have rumor that the V12 TDI engine may make it into the Q7.

It would be great to have a decent biodiesel sportscar.. I'd grab one if they released it, assuming they do it before something else is available that is more interesting.

Question about the roof scoop... I am assuming the two legs stretching from the scoop (you cans ee them in the back window) are ducts to feed the engine air, or is the scoop for aerodynamics?

I was woundering that too. It would be cool if its for the engine air.

That was what I was thinking, except I would think rain would be a huge problem if that was the case, and I know a big selling point for the R8 has been that it can be used as a daily driver

LOL yes that would scope rain water nicely. Lets hope there is some way to get around that if this is the case.

Can remember if it was worldcarfan.com but I believe it just came in Europe in the Q7 in the past couple weeks. I could be wrong.

I dunno about rain being a big problem. I mean there are currently cars out there with functional ram air into the intake, so why not this too? If anyone can engineer it to work, you gotta thing Audi will.

But that IS what it looks like - with the ducting behind the window.
