has anyone tried this? My physiotherapist recommended some acupuncture to loosen up some tight muscles in my lower back. Has anyone tried this before? does it work?

i had acupuncture done when i was recovering from my accident, the regular didn't do much, but the one when they put the needle in and put electric pulse to it, i liked it, it hurt like a bastard for the first like 10 min but after that super nice, was good for at least 3-4 days before tightening up again

if you can get it covered by your employer then you could try it if you want, but I would be careful about spending your own money on it. research shows its just another sham treatment:

the web page you are showing is for migraine headaches, he is asking about muscle tightness, i don't see how acupuncture could do anything for migraines but apparently it release endorphines and causes the muscles to retract or whatever which gradually loosens them up

It's been shown that "acupuncture" was an effective therapy for lower back pain, but the effect was proven simply to be due to the placebo effect.

It's a sham. Sure you'll have people coming on here and saying it worked for their friend's cousin's teacher, just like their magnetic mattress helped them sleep better by stimulating their internal energy vortices or some other such nonsense. It works because people believe it will work for them. Similar to how if given a placebo injection, long time heroin addicts show the same type of activity in their brains that the heroin itself would induce in a person not habituated to heroin. One of medical sciences great mysteries is how powerful the placebo effect can be.

In short, go in there with an open mind, truly believe that it will work for you and it will. Whether it really is or not.

I had a really bad elbow/shoulder injury from snowboarding, lasting months. I went to physio, while stregthening, it did not take the pain away.

I then went here http://acupuncturecalgary.com/.
She did
1) needles with heat
2) needles with electro pulse
3) cupping
4) heat bandage

My elbow felt 60% better immediately after. And then the pain was gone within a week of resting it.

I highly recommend her to anyone and everyone.

For those who say it's a scam, the same can be said for physio/chiro/massage. Like all the others, it works for some people... so it doesn't hurt to try it (unlike chiro, which can leave you paralysed LOL).

haha, chiroporactic and massage therapy are total scams too

most of it doesnt hurt to try, but if i want to throw money away, id rather do it at the casino or something.

so like i said, if work will cover it, then think about it

your pain goes away after a week because your body heals. ;)

It works for awhile so on going treatments are needed.

intra-muscular stimulation (IMS) is similar to acupuncture (same needles I think), but a little more active as they insert the needle and prod around your muscles. it feels weird as hell and can hurt for the first while, but it gets better.

Why don't you just try using more lube? Maybe have a warm bath and a couple drinks first to relax your muscles? :dunno:
