# Story Highlights
# First study of its kind shows nearly 3 million teen girls have an STD
# HPV, which can cause cervical cancer, is the most prevalent
# Nearly half of all African American females tested had at least one STD
# Doctors: Screening, vaccination, prevention among highest health prioritie

Cervical cancer doesn't effect men, and, I guess you gotta
stray away from the African AMERICANS!

Only 1 in 4? Looks like I've really got my work cut out for me when I get to Vegas.

Yes simply request a blood sample before hand.. I'm sure you'll be good to go after that. :)

Good idea, no point wasting time if I'm going to get that infection rate up in only a week.

You guys are ridiculous. If 4 attractive women came up to you in one day and wanted to fuck you, you would not say "get tested first sweetie"

I say if you put a few people with each STD on an island and leave them there long enough, they'll eventually breed a cure. Or at the very least, a totally disease resistant godsend to the porn/prostitution industry.

When the story first appeared on CNN they used the image below to run along side it.... even if the 'facts' suggest that African Americans are the highest positive group, the image still suggests that "Black people make you sick in your special spot". Way to go CNN!

I heard syphilis was on the rise in Calgary lol :P

I read that article and I think it was mostly taking into account HPV's high rate of affected women.

Women can get HPV vaccinations now. Its actually recommended by most doctors...Sort of like a flu shot for sexually active females. And hey...if something actually prevents cancer in todays world...go science!

Just be sure next time you have a bar star follow you home that you dont fall victim to the gonorr-syphi-clap-aids even faster :P

Just to clarify the banff std thing.. It 'had' (dont know current facts) the highest STD rate PER CAPITA.. not STD capital of NorthAmerica.. meaning for example more people out of 100 would have an STD.. then say Calgary.. but you better believe more people in Calgary have STD's then Banff..

And another.. I bet it would be around 30+% of the sexually active guys on here carry HPV.. thing is you'll never know it, as there are no tests for guys! (Well that is unless you caught the strain that means warts.. otherwise its generally harmless for guys.

HPV vaccinations are new and cost about $400.00, Dr.'s are already raising questions about this new vaccination. They still aren't even sure how long the vaccination will be active once given. You would think they would know?

I wish they would make up their mind on this one since I have a 12 year old daughter.

don't just ask the women to get tested... get the men tested.

Thats the thing, there is no HPV test for Men... So Guys dont know they have it... and unless its a certain strain wont affect us. Even if the vacc. only lasts a few years.. isnt it better then nothing? (It only covers a few of the strains as well)

NO what I meant was...ask your girls to get tested for STD's before having sex...ask the men to get tested for STD's as well..

Can.. but thats one or two of something like 20+ strains.. the other ones go undetected... so even if every guy did get tested.. the other 18 go un-noticed.

22% of the US has herpes

mikestang
03-13-2008, 08:12 PM
Results of a nationally representative study show that genital herpes infection is common in the United States. Nationwide, at least 45 million people ages 12 and older, or one out of five adolescents and adults, have had genital HSV infection. Over the past decade, the percent of Americans with genital herpes infection in the U.S. has decreased.

Genital HSV-2 infection is more common in women (approximately one out of four women) than in men (almost one out of eight). This may be due to male-to-female transmission being more likely than female-to-male transmission.
