it's a fuji blue sedan with a mugen body kit, not a mugen civic si. i believe the price was 37 or 38. it had the NR wheels and no the GP wheels. has really ugly badging on it too, like the LX-R and DX-R civics from T&T

Ihatetowait

Catback exhaust?

A mugen civic should be more then just aero parts and an exhaust. It should be like a civic type R, or better.

Yeah it's not a Mugen Si. But if you like Mugen stuff, Calgary Honda can now get the authentic parts including the kit and wheels, exhaust etc.

I doubt even die-hard fanboys are stupid enough to pay that kind of premium for a civic and not get any additional horsepower.

They are selling them in US for $30K when a base model is $20-22K. So I am sure they'd sell a few at $36-40K here.

When I got my ep3, it was only like 27.5k. Even then, I didn't think it was that great of a deal. But I was sold on that high-mounted shifter so whatever...

But no way in hell I'll pay over 36k for this so-called "Mugen Civic". And to add to gpomp's point, the brand new 1-series will start at this range (I saw that on the magazine for the Auto Show).

Maybe a few (I mean that quite literally), but most people paying that kind of money would probably settle for alternative cars in that price range. Add a few grand and you can step into an STI or EVO or IS250 or even a 135i.

I think Honda is getting too ambitious with their econobox car.

Mugen had some issues a couple years back.... I don't know the whole story but I recall that they were going to start selling under the name M-tec. Either way they didn't end up going under and they're still around and thriving.

Like I said IMO you can do much better with 37-38 grand. IS250 is cheaper, E90 323 is cheaper, 128 is cheaper, TSX is cheaper, etc.

Why do you insist on thinking every time I post my opinion on something I must be saying "the 320 I used to own is better than everything else"? lol :nut:

As much as I would take the WRX over the Civic the Mugen Si outhandles the WRX by a big margin. Its not even close.

yes we are sure...

normal SIs are 28k, I dont know what the mugen SI sells for in Canada (if they do, the real one), but the CSX type-S is around 33/34K. Which the US doesnt get. And people still buy those.

normal si's are like $26k. this one has $10k worth of dealer installed accessories.

Ihatetowait
03-12-2008, 10:17 PM
All be it, it would handle better. I'll take the WRX anyday over an accesorized 197HP/139TQ civic, especially since for about 10 G more you can get something with 300 HP plus that would make the handling look like a joke. IE: New STI, 135i, ect... ect...

Dealer installed aero parts do not make up for a 10K difference, honda has to be joking.

What the dealership did as an ADD on to dress this up

Mugen Lip Kit
Mugen Rear Wing
Mugen Wheels
Mugen Exhaust
Mugen Emblems
Mugen Door Sills
Mugen Stickers

$10,000 worth of all that shit

Where are you getting 27K? we're talking about a 36,000$ car here.

Lets do the math...

36,000/2 is 18000, which is just about 1000 less then I paid for my car...

If you bought 3 WRX's for 13K youd be damn close to the price of a honda civic, with some painted skirts and some tires of course.

Aren't Mugen parts really expensive? I can see how it adds up to $10K in mods + dealer markup and exclusivity. Wouldn't it have been cheaper to just bring a real one up from the USA?! :nut:

If they are selling it as the Mugen Civic, isn't that misrepresentation?

$36,388+freight+pdi and GST is under $40K. HOLY SHIT!

I don't understand why everyone is getting bent out of shape over the $10K accessories. Mugen parts are really rare and up until now I don't think you could get the parts through the dealers.

Everyone knows that EVERY dealer charges lots for any sort of accessory. You can go to Calgary honda and ask them to sell you an LX coupe with tint, wheels, 3m, dash dressup kit, body kit etc and it would come out to over 30 grand.

I bet that car sells eventually...

Doesn't change the fact that it's overpriced accessories that don't add anything but rice to your garden variety Civic.

It's a good idea to build that thing.

Even if it doesn't sell, it's an attracts people into the dealership.

Some kid walks in, has some money, sees all the Mugen parts, drools a bit, daydreams, realizes he/she can't afford it, and buys a lower model.

Look how much controversy it's causing right now. 2 pages and still going!

Werd on the CTR.

Just drove a Civic Si sedan, and theres just so much good that can't be put into numbers.

Throttle response
Shifter (feel and throw)
Steering response and feedback
Even the engine note is music (even though Honda tried to put that into their radio commercials with no success)
Even the interior is of much better quality than most of it's competition(save for the Mazda 3). Didn't get used to the gauge setup though.

OKAY HERE IS THE DEAL.

I seen the add in the International car show Flyer. So we had called calgary honda instantly to find out if they really had. Talked to a new car sales guy and he said it would be ready by the end of the week (this was on monday). So on friday one of tech's from work went there and had called me saying that they had the car in the showroom.

Now reason why i wanted to see the thing so damn bad was because i had just purchased a 2008 CSX Type S. Where i could have now purchased a Mugen Civic SI which came with all the mugen accessories.

So after the phone call i had made my plan to go to calgary honda and see the vehicle on my lunch brake cause i was either gonna be really pissed or really happy that i had just purchased this car (CSX TYpe S).

So here it is, went there for lunch and yes it was in the show room right when you walk in the main doors. I should have taken pictures to prove this but it had:

Honda accessory bodykit
Front lip had a Mugen sticker on the middle of the lip. Now the sticker is just like the ones i used to sell back in the day when i was at auto zeal so they had the sticker made basically.
Side Skirts were honda accessory.
Rear Lip i'm really not too sure.
Rear wing spoiler was definately fake with mugen emblems.
And also the car did not have the front and rear mugen emblems and no mugen shift knob.
They had also definately riced out the car by putting SI emblems on the front fenders with mugen stickers above the emblem and also had put mugen stickers on the front door handles. THEY RICED OUT THE CAR!!!

The only things on the car that were mugen authentic were the:
Mugen NR Mirror Face Wheels 17"
Mugen Sports Silencer Rear Section
Mugen Door sill Garnish

So they have actually put real mugen parts on just the Normal Civic SI but for sure it IS NOT THE REAL MUGEN CIVIC SI.

This is what the Mugen CIVIC SI is supposed to have and look like:

http://www.rsportscars.com/honda/2008-honda-civic-mugen-si-sedan/

I go back on monday and take pictures.

While we're on the topics of Civic SI's.... can I get a ballpark figure on what an 06 Civic SI would set me back? I see dealers selling them for roughly 22-24k.... while I see them in the states for 15-18.... does that pretty much answer my question? Anyone own this car and want to comment on it?

I go back on monday and take pictures.

He's right, I saw it with my own eyes last week. I went there after reading this thread sometime last week. I immediately noticed that it didn't have the Mugen Si front grille. The front lip is not the Mugen front lip, and the spoiler looks fake (can tell by the badging). It has the different wheels than the US Mugen Si, and the badging is all wrong. Salesman said it was a good deal, but I just laughed and walked out. Should've seen the look on his face. I wonder what he would've done if I grilled him about it and told him it was all wrong.

ls/vtec-crx, you should bring in a pic of the real one and ask him why it looks nothing like it...

and for those who don't know, heres what it SHOULD look like:

Pricey? Seems like it eh?

But on the positive side, being a brand new car, especially a Honda, it will probably: 1) be more fuel efficient; 2) be more reliable than a old/used BMW or Subaru; 3) will cost you less in maintenance & fuel over the next 3-6 years; 4) will have better safety technology.

It's the same question as why do people buy any other factory-suped small car (ie. CooperS, GTI, etc.) -- they're fans of the normal model. Truth is the Civic is a legendary favourite around the world.

i saw it this morning when i took my car in for an oil change... honestly i dont think it looks that bad and all the parts seem to be authentic mugen... they really covered it in decals though.

im not sure id pay that much for a civic but im sure theres someone out there who will.

They've already been proven fake by 2 other board members.... I'm pretty sure even the dealers in the States can't get their hands on the real Mugen SI parts.

well they are advertising them and the sales guy said they were all real so if they are actually fake, Calgary Honda could potentially be in a lot of trouble.

which is part of the reason that i believe that they could be real. :dunno:

regardless... it isnt an actual Mugen SI and i dont have 40 grand to drop on a car while im in school so it doesnt really matter.

However, if a car salesman opens his mouth it's either to tell a lie or finish telling the first one so.....

Since we're talking about dumb ricey Civics, I thought I'd post this up. Someone sent me this pic earlier and I've been looking for an excuse to share it:

i actually like the csx-s better than the civic si, imo the vsa does alot for me, i like leather seats too. only reason why i didnt get one, was cause they only come in navi, and i dont use it, so why pay for it, plus the fact that i work at tandt ^_^
