that is freaking wicked, I always wondered about that and why deerfoot clogged like that

There was a really cool documentary on discovery channel that showed everything too. They used computer simulations to show an accident at the start of rush hour that took 10 mins to clean up and how it affects traffic until 30 minutes after rush hour volumes was over. Really cool stuff.

Not always caused by accidents.

Traffic jams are usually caused by retards who merge at 60 onto deerfoot.

Big City Drivers = RETARDS

honestly, the deerfoot jams exactly like that on the southbound part. i notice that if i leave earlier the jam is way down by anderson, and if i leave later the jam is up near memorial (if im going to mothers home in douglasdale)

I stay as far away from deerfoot as possible during rush hour.

Especially in the morning when every girl on the road is trying to multitask.

Or caused by people who tap their brakes for no reason, which in turn causes the people behind to hit their brakes harder and harder.

That's why I try to avoid braking unless absolutely necessary.

Avoid braking? What do you mean?! Hahahaha...like coming to a stop light? Do you just throw her in first and pop the clutch?

imagine if everyone in a line was able to accelerate at the same rate at the same time when a light turns green.
it wouldn't matter even if the acceleration rate was slow, efficiency would still be wayyy higher than it currently is, but that could never happen

Pretty good...im sure if you watch a time lapse of deerfoot or something you could see exactly whats wrong with traffic.

I think the number one cause of traffic on deerfoot is one person braking and the shockwave effect goes all the way down to the end.

Just the other day I was on the deerfoot...traffic was pretty light as it was around 10am and right after glenmore heading southbound it turns into two lanes...well one guy decided to hit his brakes and I could see each car one after the other hit their brakes all the back up to a 100 cars. I was near the back and we went from cruising at 110 to almost 70

i hears this effect too, but you know what is the surefire cure for this effect? I'm sure most of you can guess it....following distance. thats all, maintain a proper following distance, you won't have to touch your brakes at all, and even someone who is 2 inches off your bumper won't have to either. makes sense to me.

I am a big fan of following distance.
