I always get a kick out of seeing people putting something like the club on their econobox, when I'll either park my viper top down, unlocked, or Z06 unlocked and walk away from it.

If your car is going to get stolen, it's going to get stolen.

I don't agree 2efnfast. Not at all. If a thief is dead set on taking your car, then he will. But the fact is that most thieves will simply rather move onto the next car that is easier to take.

In fact, I'm more inclined to think your post is merely to show off the fact you have two nice cars. :) Good for you!

Perhaps it's a bigger deal to someone who can't afford to miss a day of work when their shit box gets stolen, or worst case they don't have full coverage. Go fuck your hat, small dick.

my car was stolen 2 days ago. i just recieved a call from the cops saying that they found it and i can go see how F*D it is tomorrow. the thing is it doesn't matter wtf you drive, car theft if f*kn gay. I wouldn't give any more remorse to someone who had their vette stollen to someone that had their VW rabbit jacked.

Its a pain in the ass. PERIOD.

If a thief is dead set to steal your particular car then they are going to get it. But since most car thefts are random, they will find the easiest target to steal so don't make yourself a target. Use some common sense and don't leave shit out in the clear. They don't have to steal your car to get those fancy sunglasses you have sitting on your dash.

It's hard to tell if a car has a Fuel cut off switch so you car can still be broken into to attempt to steal. Get a club, it'll be the best $20 investment you can buy, style doesn't matter. Hell you don't even have to lock it, because the sight of it is enough of a deterent to go to the next vechicle.

As hard as it is for people to beleive, early hondas, hell any car before the key immobilier was inplace was easy to steal.

Honda's are just easy as shit. The best thing to do is to use some deterants (alarm/blue L.E.D, Club, take off faceplate), whatever you do, dont have alarm stickers in the windows (eg: Protected by viper), this will just tell a thief what type of alarm you have and then he will know exactly how to bypass it.

Most civics/early hondas, its as easy as grabbing the under dash panel, ripping it forward (breaking it) and hooking up 3 wires.

Ask any installer out there, and they probably even know the wire colors off by heart (as most thieves do to).

When it comes to having an older honda the best thing i can tell people is " out of sight, out of mind".

Dont leave your shit in the open, especially parked at a train station, since your probaby not going to be back for awhile.

Intall a standalone ECU.

Reset the startup fuel values to 0 if the car is going to be parked for a while.

Though a club is much cheaper.
You will never be able to stop the pros but most all stolen cars are just joyriders. A club is more than enough.

And to Mr. IHaveNoPenisSoINeedAnExpensiveCar.
Joyriders tend to stay away from High end cars. ... Lojack.

You do have Lojack right?
Doh ... where do you park again?

I'll add a little note to people thinking of doing cutoff switches: DON'T CHEAP OUT ON THE SWITCH. If you lose your fuel pump on the highway things can get bad pretty quick.

Also, to prevent theft, fuel cutoff is more effective. The car will still crank (which it wouldn't with an ignition power switch) and the thief will assume it's a dead car.

i've had mine in for a couple years, picked up a 120v switch from radioshack/source, soldered the ends to the switch and wires, installed it to a pretty hidden location. haven't had an issue yet except for one night i forgot i engaged it, then had to get a tow truck to tow my car cause i couldn't start it.. that was a dumb moment, didn't remember it until half way home in the tow truck while the guy was talking about smoking weed and shit... what a guy he was..

sure let me know

and ps. if a thief wants ur car then nothing is going to stop them, the pros in the states use actual tow trucks to get ur car, the douches here aren't that smart or don't have the resources yet

pps. the switch can be wired into ur remote starter if u have one, its a lot more complicated and not something i will do since of issues that can happen (ie cut the wrong wire, short circuit, etc) and how long it takes to install

the only way to make sure your car is not stolen is to basically make it undrivable. My WRX was jacked last week and they did what it took to take it. I didn't have a battery in the car the night before it was taken but had to put one in the next day so i could get around. I have a loud exhuast on my car and its parked 20ft away from my open window. THey pushed the car out of ear shot than took it. My car will probably get written off because these fucks couldnt work hard enough to buy one for themselves

the only way to keep your car form getting stolen is to basically put the car up on jack stands and take off the wheels. but even then the theives would bring there own wheels. Get a "Boot" and lock that on your wheel everytime you leave your car somewhere

I've had my fuel pump die on macleod at 3AM in the morning.

The police were kind enough to help me push my car up on the grass while I wated for my towtruck lol.

The club is almost completely useless...it takes less than 10 seconds for a hacksaw to go thru any steering wheel. Then you just bend it and slip the club off.

THe one you're probably thinking of is, and I forget the name, but it attaches from your brake pedal to the floor, preventing the brake pedal from being depressed, aka, you can't put it into gear. Or on a standard, the clutch, preventing it from allowing the starter to kick in. The only way to get around it is either sawing IT, which would take probably half hour, or hacksaw the brake pedal, which would take about as long.

ahh...found one: Brake pedal lock (http://www.autobarn.net/autolockpro.html?site=www.shopping.com)

If you get a 4 pronged steering lock and position it correctly the thief would be forced to pretty much cut off the entire outer portion of the steering wheel, leaving them with a little stub to steer with.

With a pedal lock, the thief can just reach underneath the dash and activate the clutch switch manually. After that just shift like a dog box. If it's an auto they can just drive around using the parking brake until they can get somewhere safe to spend time to get the actual lock off.

Either way, these locks should only be used as deterrents, you should always have a backup obstacle waiting for the thief if they manage to get the lock off.

^Again black book value isn't on par with market value of my vehicle. If my civic got stolen and I got the insurance payout I could not buy another civic of the same quality. They might give me 3 grand for my 97 civic, so it's worth having the club.

If the insurance company screws you 2-3 grand on your Z06 thats not really a big deal is it.

canuckcarguy

I think it's pretty random. Park in a well-lit area, lock your doors, and hide your valuables, and pretty much hope for the best. Most car thieves don't want to be driving around with smashed out windows or popped locks in the middle of the night, they're too obvious a target for police.

The club's a great visible deterrent, at least it makes the thieves go to the next car if all they're looking for is a joyride or a convenient ride across town. If they really want your car, they'll take it, but at least you can prevent the casual thieves.

Put your money into a MagnaVolt.

No embarrassing alarm noise. No need to trouble the police. And it won't even run down your battery!

So where can I get the MagnaVolt system?

rp_guy
03-20-2008, 02:42 PM
what do you guys think of this (for cars with remote starters/security so that both functions still work):

2 normally open relays, connected in parallel (on the 30 and 87 pins, to the fuel pump circuit) and on one relay, 85/86 connected to the auxilary output of the remote starter (you don't need full power for the relay and it can be on the ignition or accessory outputs), and the other relay's 85/86 connected to your kill switch.

since it's the fuel pump (and not ignition), you're still gonna have fuel to crank the car when the remote starter activates, and your kill switch is required otherwise. since it's in parallel, no extra voltage/current anywhere...

this is mainly for if someone was to get your key as well.. however that may happen (otherwise the regular security system would work normally)
