If you're intent on the B5 A4, I'd say look for one with a "celebration" package.

Good cars. AWD is nice. Not particularly fast, but the 1.8T can be upgraded quite easily to make it acceptable. Good quality. Nice interiors - second to none. Expensive parts.

Good value for money, and the 1.8T feels faster than it is. Which makes it a blast to drive. Avoid the automatic, though, it's a much better car with the standard transmission. I've heard, though never experienced, that the CVT transmission makes them fun to drive, but I think that was only available in 2wd. Quattro's nicer.

We have one. Nice car. On ours the sunroof makes more wind noise than I think it should. In the 3 years and 70ish K's we put on it, it haas been a rock. No problems, still drives tight.

BTW, a 01 A4 1.8t w/5 speed will run a 15.9 at race city, completly stock. But there is sooo much aftermarket support for the 1.8t its crazy.

I've had two B5 A4's,(2.8 and 1.8T) and now a B5 S4.. all been great, and whatever problems I've had have been attributed to my many upgrades. (My 1.8T had approx 330hp.. Stage 3+ GT28rs, Current S4 has upgraded turbos and 450hp+)

As long as you keep up normal maintenace they should be geat cars... With a chip the 1.8T is about the same as the 2.8, but it really depends if you want to mod, or keep it stock.

Doesnt just a simple GIAC chip give you like 50 more hp and 50 more tq with the 1.8t?
