i think the abs is on becasue it is telling you that it is working

Sounds like a loose wheel sensor, start checking the connections to all 4 wheel sensors.

i have yet to see a car have an abs light that stays on to tell you its working. any ive seen come on when abs kicks in. They will come on when you start your engine to tell you its working but go out after a couple seconds.

No shit sherlock

Anyways my car did that(01 grand am), every time i'd touch the brakes the ABS would kick in, it was one of the wheel sensors.

Had a similar issue in my car
Had it inspected, they said it was the ABS pump or shit

try taking out the fuse and putting it back in.
i had a similar problem with my 93 maxima. The ABS would always kick in and the airbag light would always be on. my mechanic took out the fuse and put it back in and the problems disappeared :)

A friend of mine had the same problem with her cavalier, and it just ended up being low on brake fluid.

My friends car too had the light problem. Had the fuse taken off and replaced with a new one ad the problem is gone
