Anyone owns a VW Rabbit? and would recommend it?
The Rabbit came from Germany, and does that make any different than those made in Mexico in terms of reliability?

Thx

I think the Rabbits are still made in Mexico and Brazil. It's just a mark 5 golf. To respond to your original question, I've never driven one. But I heard they really enhanced the suspension over the mark 4? I love the mark 4, I find it to "fit" me really well, and looks visually appealing and has a great engine. My only complaint is the quality control. My one severally lacked in that department, but after 25,000 km's they seem to have fixed most problems except the cd changer, broken bass, and the glow plugs.

I've had the privilage of driving one of the "3 door" models with the bigger engine (not the little city one) and they're a sporty, fun little car. If you're looking for a new car, for a decent price, I don't think you could go wrong at all with one.

I might get some haters for this, but check out the "3 door" Saturn Astra as well. GM didn't change a damn thing about the Belgian car (sold under the Opel brand in Europe) which was one of the best rallye platforms a few years back. I haven't driven one, but sitting in the one at the car show this year was nice. It felt good and it looks good as well.

I think you'll find both these cars will be in a similar market segment.

The 5 cylinder sucks. Worse on gas than the GTI. Otherwise a good car.

I had a 2007 VW Rabbit, great little car. Not a single problem with it in just over a year of driving. The 5 cylinder has good power and TQ and they have the only 6 speed auto in the segment. Gas consumption is on par with a GTi but it takes regualar gas so it's a bit cheaper.

Because I liked the Rabbit so much when it came time to upgrade I just got another one just with more power and leather. ;)

PS Rabbits and GTis are made in Germany not Mexico or Brasil.

I'm guessing thats why people must be so satisfied with the new rabbit? Better fit and finish now that they're made in deutschland? I think most mark 4 jettas were mexican and the golfs were brazilian. Mine was just made a hour before closing, on a friday, the weekend of mardigras... they just started celebrating early and forgot to tighten a few things down:confused:

i own a 2008 5 dr rabbit .. it's got a nice 20hp upgrade from the 2007 model..
the gas mileage is not too bad.. after the first oil change, i get about 525kms per 40L tank.. not as good as a civic, but it is a 5 cylinder after all..

as mentioned above, rabbits and gti's are made in germany...
i had to wait a few months longer for my car because the engine plant in germany had a fire so there was a month delay

i've had the car for 5 months, and i've already put 13000kms on it.. and i love every moment of it! it's got a lot of standard features, such as heated seats/mirrors/windshield washer nozzles, a/c, 10 speaker sound system.. it is really roomy inside too.. more headroom than the 2006 civics (my sister has one)

personally i prefer the 5 dr model because the rub strips are body colored, and not textured black, which makes a world of difference in terms of looks IMO

GTI actually sound pretty appealing with DSG and the under $30K price. Plenty of chips to take it up to R32 performance too.

Isn't a GTI just a Rabbit with a 2.0T motor? Oh wait, it has leather too... probably better when you are wearing assless chaps!

I just bought a 2008 5 door, manual. Excellent gettin' around car with a little bit of power compared to other cars in it's price range. Fun to drive, lots of options available, fit and finish is excellent for the price. Great bang for buck in my opinion.

nah. VW Canada only gets a certain number of TDI's so they have to choose which models they want with the tdi motor.

i've been told that it will mostly be jetta's and maybe some passats that will get it. at least that's what my instructor said at the last training seminar i attended.

the automatic has surprising throttle response when i drove my friend's

it's just too cute for me, and modifications are much more expensive on euro's
