Not necessary. Just get the serial number from the seller and ask Apple if that serial number has been reported stolen. If you want to be really diligent, ask the police as well.

WTF? Who would you 'ask' at Apple or the Police? What a load of BS.

When stolen property such as a laptop is reported, one of the most important pieces of investigative information is the serial number. Otherwise, how would any ever be able to prove that the laptop in question was stolen?

If you contact the police, they can query a database on the serial number. They are, after all, quite interested in you not purchasing stolen property; they might even like to learn who is selling it if it does turn out to be stolen. Quite often, this information gets back to the manufacturers, such as Apple, as well. I've known Apple owners to report the theft Apple themselves, since any repair work would reveal the serial number.

Customer service at Apple can easily run the query. As for the police, you'd have to contact their general help line first and be bounced around a bit, but eventually you'll get to someone who can run the query.

Does less than one month mean you have used it for less than one month, or that there is less than a month left in factory warranty?
