Ya, so I needed a winter car for well... winter next year I guess. Started hunting on Tuesday night, picked 'er up today!

Heated leather seats, DSG tranny, 16" winter wheels (they barely clear the brakes), Sirius radio, it's a lot of car for so cheap!

Here are some pics:

Yea, I went to check out the Civic Si and Acura CSX. I was close to getting the CSX, but for $50/month more, the GTI was a way better choice. The Si and CSX had to be driven really hard to go fast. This thing just goes when I floor it at any speed.

It sucks that none of the Honda/Acura guys would move on price at all.

$34k with all the fees. MSRP was $35k + fees (pdi, freight, doc fees, etc). Monthly lease payments $550 I think. $0 down. Perfect for writing it off as a business expense lol.

What did they do with stock wheels? LOL This car comes with either 17s or 18s. Did you make them give you base Jetta wheels?

Where are you getting your suspension installed?

The car had 18's on them. They swapped them with another car, so the other car's optioned with 18's now haha. Works perfect, 16" winter tires are so much cheaper.

Wow, that looks really nice in black, especially liking the red trim at the front.

I've been interested in getting a GTI but have been put off by some of the problems people have said they have had, keep us all posted on how she treats ya, I'd look at picking one up if all is well.

Why do you figure they make engine bays the way they do now, with nothing but plastic covers over the entire thing? So people don't mess with anything? And /or attempt to fix anything? No one cares anymore what the engine looks like?

Ya, I was close in getting the CSX Type-R (no options). Priced pretty much identical to a GTI + DSG + Leather Package. The CSX had built in Navi, and the GTI has DSG and much better drivability. A high strung low torque motor like the one in the CSX type-R isn't that fun at our elevation. The GTI won because of the torque and the DSG. The choice would've been tougher if I lived in Vancouver sea level haha.

Congrats on the new ride. Man a brand new car as a winter beater eh? You've done well Rage, how do you do it?

Anyways, I'm sure there are a lot more successful people here on beyond just like you. Props man, hopefully in about 5 years I'll be in the same boat.

wouldn't that be unfair to you? since the car suppose to come with 18s, now they gave you 16s?

I disagree because in the end he got what he wanted for his wheels so that he can save money by purchasing cheaper winter tires. I actually give props for the dealership for doing this as part of the sale assuming that there wasn't any extra fee that came with it.

haha not really. I went to Northland VW first, and the guy didn't have black + dsg + leather in stock. He said could be a few weeks to a few months. Then I went to TC for lunch, and SCFC drove the car over to show it to me. So I bought it lol.

Eibach springs
full 3m and tint
19" TSW Jarama in black: http://www.tsw.com/img/jarama_black_beauty_pop_white.jpg

That's probably it. Was gonna change the stereo, but I actually like it a lot. Probably getting bluetooth module to activate the steering wheel phone button and thats it.

Is the stereo like the ones in Audi's where if you have satellite radio you can't have the ipod adapter?

danno
03-24-2008, 12:44 PM
when i ordered mine i read up on the forums about the stereo quality being very bad, i had plans to upgrade. over the year and a bit that i've had it i don't mind it and have no plans on upgrading.

there's a aux input in the glove box for the i pod, or you could but the ipod adapter from vw. i've used both ipod and satellite.

the eibachs are basically the euro springs right?? lowers 1-1.5"

rage2
03-24-2008, 12:47 PM
There's apparently 4 sets of Eibachs with various ride heights. I got the standard one, which is 1.5" lower.

Aleks
03-24-2008, 12:53 PM
It's a bit confusing with the drop right now because in US the 08s are 15mm lower than 06 and 07s. In Canada due to our silly regulations our 08s didn't get the same drop :nut:

danno
03-24-2008, 03:57 PM
i'd like to know how you like the drop for calgary and it being your daily. i've thought about it but havn't convinced myself to get springs.

rage2
03-24-2008, 04:27 PM
I'd be the wrong person to ask. I drive ridiculously low cars, and 1.5" on a GTI probably isn't much for me. I'll tell you it could be lower lol.

danno
03-24-2008, 04:38 PM
haha, i've had a couple lowered cars and didn't enjoy the ride. if it was my summer car i would have lowered it already. www.golfmkv.com you may be able to find some good prices on there if you havn't already bought the springs or plan on buying locally.

nice :)

i was thinking about a dsg gti, and just making a racecar out of it. strip it completely. get the hpa dsg upgrade, but thats $5k ouch. and also the european S3 conversion (makes the 2.0t 320hp on oem parts). too bad it doesn't have 4motion (quattro).

but i might just buy the s3 in europe and bring it in :D watch and see

also this is a nice upgrade for the car, euro touchscreen nav unit, plays dvds, built in HD, and bluetooth:
