I need someone to tune my car and make sure everything is set up properly. Does anyone know if there is someone that has experience with JR superchargers and tuning? Thanks

Depends on the car, and what kinda of tuning system you are using. Different people have better experience with certain cars and others know how to tune different systems. You'll need more than the stock ECU to tune properly...

it's for a 91 Civic Si with the Jackson Racing Supercharger and a ZC engine

^ The JR kit comes with an adjustable rising rate FPR for FMU. But I think that's all that came with the kits for the D-series and B-series.

If your JR kit came with the timing adjustment knob, the FPR coupled with a VAFC should be good enough to maintain a nice flat A/F.

projekz if you don't mind me adding to this discussion right now the car has the rising rate fmu off the fpr and 2 msd boxes.

One for timing retard think it's the 6A and another that I am not sure about.

There is a timing retard knob inside the car and it is turned all the way up to retard the most.

The wiring was done very poorly and I am not that familiar with the msd boxes.

This used to run a stock d16a6 that cracked a sleeve at 167 000kms and the cylinder walls looked like they had seen quite a bit of heat.

the new motor is a sohc ZC with arp studs and a new oem tri layer metal head gasket.

the car is still obd0.

Since the person who installed the kit originally is unknown and no one else can provide details it's hard to know how those 2 msd boxes work.

If you want it dyno tuned, I would recommend switching it to obd1 with a chipped p06 ecu and running it on crome without the fmu or those msd boxes installed.

If OP keeps the current setup would throwing it on a dyno and monitoring a/f for a few runs be enough to know if the setup will last?

i have the car now, what would i gain from switching to OBD1 and a different ECU? i need to get better gas mileage out of this thing. i only get around 450/tank highway driving and thats driving nicely not using th SC.

a little help here.....

If you're switching from OBD0 to OBD1, you'll inherently get better gas mileage because you have a heated O2 sensor. Read: You'll use less gas when the engine is cold.

Tuneability is the big thing when you go to OBD1 because you have a cheap EMS that will allow you to change your A/F and timing. If fuel economy if your priority then you can tune for that.

id like to have more power and better fuel economy. is that doable??? i know its hard to have both....

The conversion is going to require distributor, 4-wire O2, and ECU as well. It's a significant amount of money considering how much the car is worth.

I've been in quite a few JR supercharged cars, and to be quite honest tuning didn't make a huge difference in power or fuel economy over the supplied FMU. IMO the upgrade isn't worth it. Your gas mileage numbers sound about right and there probably isn't that much power to safely unlock.

either way, i was hoping for better fuel economy because its my daily driver.

Just count how many injectors there are. If there are 4 then it's MPFI.

Or just take a look at your intake manifold. They look very different. See here:

MPFI on left DPFI on right

just another question about fuel. when i stop at a light and then start again, i hear almost like a gurgling noise and my fuel gauge drops quite a bit and then comes up to almost normal again, i was wondering if a bigger fuel pump would help this

You should be using a walbro 255hp pump with a FPR setup. the stock pump will not keep up.

But that should not effect your gas gauge...

well whatever it is, it reflects on my gas gauge. i figured i could use an upgraded pump though.

your stock pump is fine. My turbo civic did the same thing its the fuel moving around in the tank and making the reading on your gauge be off a bit during acceleration.

The big problem with an obd1 conversion in your case is that the car is auto so I am not sure you could chip an auto ecu to read the sohc zc or d16a6 ecu maps.

You could switch it all to manual and make the conversion but that would be expensive and I believe you said your gf/wife does not drive stick.

In 1991 that motor stock with a manual transmission use to gt about 550 on a tank, yours is supercharged and makes about 35whp more and is auto so 450 isnt too too bad.

It works just fine, there are very few differences between auto and manual ecu's, and I have seen many factory chipped automatic ecu's.

ahem.... I happen to have a 94 Tegra with a Jackson on it personally... easy to tune...

Minda ya, I would toss it lol... after tuning this Civic on Sunday.... 1.6, Crane cam, $600 ebay turbo kit, 2.5 bar map sensor.. .. 305 hp on (cheap) pump gas at about 15 psi...... Kills my integra by 65 hp, and I have 2 cams, and a 1.8

Dealt with Toma a couple times with my blown rx7 on his dyno and know many others who have seen him as well. You cannot find a more fair and honest guy around to deal with!
