Residential parking permit

If I have 2 residences in the city, and all my ID/registration shows the address for my primary residence, how do I get a parking permit for my secondary residence on the street? The only thing I have proving that I live there is a rental agreement.

Does it mean I have to use a visitor parking permit for my secondary residence? How long do those last for until they expire?
