View Full Version : A screaming pile of Subaru Poo

I've seen the new Subaru WRX and I have to say I don't like it. Why did Subaru screw up such a nice car? The old WRX screamed "Rally Car" and "Testosterone". To me it was sort of the Mad Max of sports cars. I was hoping they would make the new one more muscular looking. Instead they make it a tear drop shaped bubble gum car with tin foil tail lights. It's now pretty much exactly the opposite of what it used to be. What a waste. What do you guys think?

New Subaru is seriously FTL.

New Lancer ain't spectacular but it's a start... and about damn time we get it up here.

Looks to me like a done-up Ford Focus.

EVO's definitely where it's at.

They look so pedestrian and boring now. I'll buy an < 07 over an 08.

I drove a new WRX recently and I can say it still has lots of power with a serious turbo kick. However, it does not inspire confidence when pushed. The suspension is way too soft for a car like this and it squirms in the corners. Now I've been told that it will hold its line, but it feels like it's going to spin any second.

The new one is far more luxury than sport. The interior is pretty nice, the outside pretty bland (helps you blend in if you don't get it in "arrest me Subaru rally blue"), and the wife won't get on your case for buying a "sports" car. You will soon find out though that you didn't buy a sports car but rather a family sedan/5 door hatch will a little more power than usual.

well said, that's exactly what they are aiming at for the WRX.

For every 1 enthusiast that bitches about the way the new WRX/STi looks there are 3 non-enthusiasts out there saying "That's better, maybe I will go test drive one".

I am not knocking the previous generations looks, but it only appealed to a small sample of people in the market for a new car. This version is much more tame, therefore much easier to sell to a wider range of customers.

That being said, I am a big fan of the new STi...almost tempted me to trade in the Legacy.

I still prefer the 04 models

The chargespeed one is not bad though.

Those are nice enough looking cars.....but so are the Golf GTi and Mazda 3. That is what they turned the WRX into. Nothing more than a hatchback clone. They could have kept the face the same to give the car some cleaner lines but then given a nice fender flare and keep the rough and tumble bad boy looks - perhaps made it even a little more "military" looking if that makes any sense. It used to be a car that you could see looking at a huge mud bog and say "Fuck it....I'm going in and I'm going to rip it up..." The old car you could see doing stuff like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPyZZ9ZNQ5M&eurl=http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/showthread.php?t=418635&highlight=subaru+wrx

The new car looks like something you have get your nails painted before you get into.

I like the body style enough that I bought one. I have had a new sti for about 3 weeks now. I expected the power but am amazed by the handling and the brakes.

My frame of reference for handling isn't that large; I have driven an 04 WRX, an 07 WRX, a 03 Cobra, a 89 5.0 Mustang plus my two previous civics (89 si and 93 si). Both had some suspension work (coil overs on the 89 and springs on the 93, both had strut tower bars) and sticky tires. Compared to those cars the Sti blows them away. There is more body roll than my lowered civics and the cobra but less than the others. However, the body roll never seems dangerous, the car feels planted and just rails around the corners. The closest car was the cobra, which had huge sticky tires on it.

Hatch's with a few mods and a drop look amazing, love that black one with red tails. The WRX Sedan is not too shabby either, Also the optional mesh grille looks MUCH better than the stock one. :bigpimp:

a once respectable car looks like just another ricer hatch now. not a fan at all. looks like a mazda3.

I kinda like the black one with the red rims... but only because of the HUGE fender flares... The white one kinda looks ugly IMO

I much prefer the blue/gold 07 STi

well performance wise there are many awesome things about both the evo and sti. but looks seems to be the most important thing here.

I think the previous models both looked better.

the new STi can look sweet, but the older one was more aggressive.

the previous Evo was far hotter, the new one is nice, but it looks like a Heavy "Dodge" type of car. and I am not a fan of many domestics at all.

just my 2 cents.

now let's talk performance!

if you are going to race these new ones and what type of racing are you prepping them for?
